Now that was a very complicated family reunion if I had to say so myself. Imagine popping up after 16 years to find out that your dad wants to kill you, your mom wants to kill herself for not helping you, and your little brother pointing his sword at you in an act of reluctant obligation.

She tried to sacrifice herself in an effort to ask for forgiveness from Hyakkimaru for not being able to stand up for him and unintentionally thriving over his misfortune along with many others but that attempt on her life made the Goddess of Mercy use all of her remaining power to save her and destroy the Banmon Wall so she can protect him from Mr. Firefox.

Holy fuck, what an episode
“I love heroes, but I don't want to be one. Do you even know what a hero is!? For example, you have some meat. Pirates will feast on the meat, but the hero will distribute it among the people! I want to eat the meat!” - Monkey D. Luffy

Man, such a bittersweet episode full of emotion and action that wraps up in a way that doesn't give off much about what the story could be led to from this point on.
I can kind of understand what Daigo's coming from, but at the same time, Hyakkimaru's hadit rough to an unimaginable degree, it kind of reflects that the world always has a bad side of every other “good” thing out there.
Tahomaru bit from more than he can chew, there goes his eye, the mother is looking like she's not going to live for long, and Daigo's reputation is probably going down after this humiliation.

Daigo is all about sacrifice and shit, fucking bastard should've sacrificed himself then. Even Hyakkimaru's mom and brother, they should pay.

This was a mishmask of predictible nonsense tbh. I cannot feel any emotions from this as it's a typical development i've seen a few too many times before and one i saw coming from a mile away. The only part i couldn't predict was how his mother would react when seeing him again. It was a tad bit underwhelming on that front though.

Should have been a grand climax, was a bit underwhelming and was noticeably rushed. A small blot on this wonderful adaptation

Wow... this episode is rich in emotions! o_o; Tahoumaru, it's not your brother's fault, blame your dear father for making him this way, for selling his body for the demons. He's too naive to understand that, it seems...

Great episode! ^^

I'm just here to comment how beautifully the scene where they're walking in the forest is drawn! The leaves illuminated by the sunlight! 😍 some 10/10 art right there

Of course the arrow doesn't hit Sukeroku. Cuz he's protected by the goddess of mercy ,lol.

I could understand Daigo's reason for sacrificing Hyakkimaru, but when he doesn't show any remorse it's just potrayed him as a mere douchebag.

How cunning for the show to rotating my views of who's the real demon.
He who smiles in a crisis has found someone to blame.

A cruel fate and a cruel family. There's a sense of tragedy about all of this. Classic tragedy story, father gives up his son for wealth and power, the nuclear family unit is destroyed by his deception.

Anime is fun.

Even though it was for prosperity of the land, I don't think one should trust demons to do that job. Sad to see Tahomaru take his father side but can't blame him considering the cost if he would protect Hyakkimaru. I hope he realises Daigo is willing to sacrifice anything to reach his own ambitions even Tahomaru himself.

Turns out 2 did declare war on Hyakki, as I suspected from the start. But the reasoning he chose to do so was not what I initially expected. I like how his decision was developed, even if it's nothing groundbreaking.

That poor mother. Had her unborn child sacrificed to demons and then stolen out of her arms at birth, living for 16 years with that pain and guilt. Wish she could've gotten to know Hyakki a little before she died though. That just makes it even more sad.

I don't quite understand the green lady of mercy figurine soul, or what happened to that wall. But I guess I'll find out.

How sad Hyakkimaru watching his mother killing herself in a apex of despair and guilty, when moments ago he was smiling in knowing that he has a mother and people to call his family...

It's fortunate to have someone like Dororo by the side.

I feel the plot keep on going and not stuck in the same place. Hyakkimaru meet his family but still they're rejected except her mom. Dororo still a win-win solution.

Sooooo, if I have to say something about this anime, I would rather say it did not touch to me up to this point. Even his brother whom he saved recently rejected him. I understand like they do it for people but not all people have to be in good position always. There always happen good and bad things. That's why taking an innocent boy's life is faaaaaar away from anything good. I'm excited about how this anime will end :/

Man... that was such a sad and painful episode. I felt so bad for Hyakkimaru in this episode. He doesn't deserve all of this. Everybody wants him dead. He never asked for all of this to happen to him. I'm glad that he has Dororo with him but still, it's very sad to see all of this.

Poor Hyakkimaru. I love both Dororo and Hyakkimaru so much. The animation was very good as well especially the action scenes.

Sad ep, Tahomaru gets his scar, they're trying to justify the dad's side but no. There's no justifying what they did to Hyakimaru, and it's mental the dad can still delude himself that it was, and has seemingly convinced Tahomaru too.

A lot of emotions in this episode. His younger brother made a decision but still, no matter the logic, what they did to Hyakkimaru for their prosperity is unforgivable. Hyakkimaru's suffered so much. This episode showcased their confrontation pretty well.

Tahoumaru... Here among us, they put us in his situation and whether it's immoral, unethical and all the rest, they would do the same, I don't blame him, the culprit is the bastard of the father, who doesn't care about the people as he says, he did everything for his ambition to govern.
And her poor mother, she couldn't do anything at that time and for 16 years she was blaming herself for not being able to do anything for him...

the story of this anime reminds me of berserk on so many levels! And even tho i love berserk for it superb arts and designs, i think dororo has a better story!
The father sacrificed his own child for the sake of his own desires! Made a deal with devil (and demons) for power and wealth! (Like how griffith sacrificed his own friends and comrades for the sake of his dreams) and he had the audacity to say he did to save his people?! (I think griffith said the same)
And hyakkimaru who lost everything from the moment he was born, fights his way up to get back what was taken from him! I actually think he is a better mc than guts! (So far, idk what might happen in future episodes).
He isnt doing it for revenge! (Yet) and the author doesn’t constantly rape innocent women in the story just to motivate the mc ! There is a clearer goal in dororos story than berserk and that’s destroying the demons to take back his lost body parts + save people in the process.
(It also reminds me of fumetsu no anatae but this is waaaayyyy better than that, imo! But its underrated af compared to both berserk and fumetsu no anatae)

sad that Tahomaru chose to fight his brother. Lost an eye too. I don't hate him but I don't think it was the right choice. It's choosing between prosperity for you people or do the right thing for your brother. I don't know why he escalated to where he had to fight and kill his brother though. Kinda dumb.

thank god he didnt die... given that the anime name is Dororo I thought this could be the end of Hyakkimaru
looks like mother used last of Buddha's blessings to cancel demons protection

@Stormen You have to remember that the original manga was made in the 60s. So a lot of manga and anime were inspired by it, and took some of the tropes.
