Ooh, solid episode. Seems like they are introducing some of the more potent mecha in this show as one of them has a strange shield.

Those new equipment is quite something anyways. Aida seems a bit happy though after seeing her father again. The action was alright I suppose. Cutting a bit close there though, Bell ;o

Not a bad ep. A pink G-Self now? I still prefer the purple one. Well about time on who the mask guy is unless I'm just slow and never put two and two together. Well this just got a lot more interesting I wasn't expecting that cheerleader to join also. The moon is also hiding some activity. I hope they go into space soon.

This is getting really good!
Are they setting up for Turn A? That show's supposed to be really far in the future, I wonder how they're reconciling that with all the references to it in G-Reco.

I'm sorry you are not able to keep up with the series. Perhaps taking it at a slower pace will help? Most media players have a slow down feature.

This time the female protagonist starts with a gundam, still less useful than the guys, feels like there's no reason for the g arcane to exist. Haven't seen aida do a quarter of the crap bellri has done and he keeps saying she's reckless when he's no better. I expected him to fuck up again by shooting his mom. Still don't get the point of raraiya and her "chuchumy", I like moe but can she do something plot relevant please? This ep has the odd advancement of events just like ep1&2.....still better than build try...which has tons more "fanart" of fumina (who's also support because male power fantasy) than any of the g-reco girls.

Eh, eh? What are talking about? Why he'll be shooting his mom? He didn't, Aida would. Seeing a vessel coming from the Capital Tower = kill it is stupid as fuck, not only reckless. First off, it is a small vessel, a glider, obviously old (UC old), and it doesn't fire at you. And obviously a person pilots it, regardless was it Wilmit or anyone else. Ah, and the more Aida couldn't control the Arcane, the more prone to attacking. Speaking of immaturity, right here, as well as being unable to listen to orders. Who gave her a machine to pilot anyway ;D

She is was more successful with the G-Self, though.

Great battle.

Looks like Aida is more used to the G-Self than the Arcane. Either that or G-Self is easy to pilot.

Not a big fan of the Tricky armor. It's too big and makes him a huge target.

The dialogue and directing in this show is just terrible. Even the battles have jarring scenes like crazy and why do they have to constantly say the obvious? Although the "why is there an island here?" line cracked me up. The art is pretty much the only consistently good thing about this show.

I suppose the story is going in the direction that the people supplying them with energy are a possible enemy and are currently forcing restrictions on them to make sure there's very little resistance if they want to impose their will upon them. I mean they are already doing that by controlling the energy supplies but I suppose they may have more sinister intentions in mind.

Many people seem bizarrely incapable of comprehending this show, but I have like absolutely zero issue. Honestly it just seems like more than mindset than anything with people (the few that seem to even be watching which is staggeringly small) seem to cherry pick reasons why it "makes no sense" instead of just watching the damn show. MAL and by extension modern anime fandom has no frame of reference for shows like this and is probably better left just sticking to the Fate/Stay Night and other modern hype shows of the season that are constantly trying to dazzle you and create those fan service and artificial hype moments cause that's what makes a show good now. Its just better for everyone that way. Sad but kind of the reality.

Sadly Gundam just seems to have been relegated at this point in this rather boring stretch of anime since its now all about the latest Urobuchi script or VN/LN adaptation that can act as a members only club and wankfest for people that read it. Those are the stories of the now that seem to most speak to today's anime fan so something like this honestly never had a chance outside of Japan. What gets me though is the sheer hatred for it and the director who is basically doing everything by himself for the most part and for the 35th anniversary and as probably his last work and people can't even bother to give him that much of a chance to just tell his story one way or another. Anime fandom....I don't know, I wouldn't want to be associated with that label much anymore for what its come to mean at this point and upon outside observation.

I'm wondering if there's going to be a direct tie-in with Turn A Gundam now that they have introduced the Moon as a human setttlement? It'd be interesting to say the least.

Wow I never thought that Luin Lee is Captain Mask...though I guess maybe should be obvious because of the hair color. Luin Lee didn't seem so angry like Captain Mask so maybe that's why I didn't connect the two. I like Luin Lee but so far Captain Mask has been kind of on the annoying side for me. Are Luin Lee and Manny still going out? o_o She's pretending to not know Captain Mask's true identity and I'm guessing he is doing the same (or pretending not to know her). I miss Manny with long hair :/

Some funny moments in this episode, Bellri in particular made some weird noises haha. Liking his VA.

Great episode, but damn they really need to be more coherent.

First they were fighting on an island, then out of a sudden Aida's father came and supplied them. They all went and relaxed in the beach while a war is going on at their backs.

Also Aida's father is speaking to Bellri then after 1 minute Bellri is already out of the island and not taking to the commander?

I also love Zeta's reference when G-self turned red and made an aura on it.

Unfortunately, Mask is probably one of the weakest Char clones in the universe. He's probably just as worse as that clone in Age.

Wtf, now out of nowhere Aida went to space to intercept and kill the escape pod(with Bellri's mother on it), then she tells she just went there to see if there's other enemies besides the pod.

I also don't get, if Bellr's mother is one of the top people in the capital tower, how come she was able to talk to the general and head of the pirate so casually like that?

The plot is really good, their trying to revive UC era technology and probably start a new war. Unfortunately there's just so many missing plot holes, skipped animations that your forced to create your own scenario as the episodes go by.

If they can fix this holes, i would really enjoy Recongnista much more.

Still can't wait for the next episode!!

I didn't realize he was Luin Lee as well and when I thought about it, there were actually plenty of hints laid out about his identity before the reveal. However Luin (pre Captain Mask) had about four scenes beforehand and barely made in an impact on me as a viewer. So I'm glad they made him the Char clone because otherwise he would have been one of the most forgettable characters in this show. I forgot Luin's name until the reveal, he made that little of an impact on the story before becoming Captain Mask.

His scene with Manny on the battleship is currently my favorite scene in this show and I hope to see more scenes like it because I have not been enjoying Reconguista. Also thank you for telling me that Graham comes back in the second season of Gundam 00 (I have only seen the first season) because he was one of the few characters I liked.

There's already an armor that colors the G-Self red, you can see it in the end credits.

I'm not sure why so many people loathe this show so much. It's like they've never seen a Tomino Gundam series before. While I will admit that the first few episodes of G no Reconguista were a little jarring, since it was dropping you directly into the action with barely any prior explanation, there's been more than enough information given by now for the viewer to put together where various factions and characters stand in the universe.
Have people been spoiled by more straight to the point shows in the past few years?

That said the episode was pretty good. I've been loving the animation so far. Very colorful and fun, fits with the tone of the series. I think the pink G-Self looks pretty dumb, but I said the same about the regular G-Self when I first saw it. Since then I've warmed to the design, maybe I can warm up to the pink G-Self too. It was pretty obvious that Luin was Mask, if that was supposed to be some sort of big reveal I think that his character design could've been altered to have a larger mask, something along the line of Char's helmet from 0079.

Finally Finally we get to learn More IN show explanation of the universe setup

it seems Earth and orbital space are separated by the endless wars of the colonies, and isolated except for the tower travel system and there are now TWO fractions in the planet that alert to reorganization of the Space colony side of things.

These stuff can Easily be explained like what the directors DID in Gundam 00 season 1 Episode 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The show has a lot of minor technical detail in which other mech shows can learn from. Multi compartment decoy balloon, air bag protection for pilots, how military conducts search etc are all great little details the political side of the plot can use similar treatment

I have always had a hard time following the fight scenes in Gundam series, so the first half of the episode bored me. The second half was a bit better, but it does feel like they are trying to explain the world in the most convoluted ways possible...

Maybe some of the new characters who are being introduced can make the show a bit more grounded...

Lol at people actually not realizing Mask - Luin Lee.
When Mask first showed up Luin Lee mysteriously disappeared from the whole series...That didn't raise any alarm? <_<

And it just shows that people who have a hard time understanding this are not used to Tomino's directing style. To make it worst, his last project was the Zeta movie and that was 9 years ago.

I finally found time to watch tis and I am loving it.

This is my type of meccha series, because I love meccha like Rahxephon, Eureka 7, Gurren Lagan, Eva and this almost seems kinda like that style with animation and plot.

Anyway, I enjoy it alot, but I havent seen alot of gundams either. I kinda knew Luin was Mask, that was first thing I thought when I saw him but then thought that it was a little too obvious maybe they were playing us, then his supposed girlfriend didn't even recognize him so I knew but wasn't positive.

I wonder what the kundala even are? That one guy said a lower class of humans that were eaten as food in a past age? cannibalism? WTF?

anyway, i dont get all the complaints against this show. Its a late night show so its going to have deaths and good drama, plus if you like other anime like GL or Eureka 7 you would probably enjoy this. Don't try to compare it to UC gundam too much just try to enjoy it on its own level without letting your expectations cloud your perceptionl

It's been discussed that the "Kuntala" are human cattle. There are no backstory on why they exists, but it seems the practice of "eating" a Kuntala has been stopped, but they are still treated poorly.

There was probably a large famine, and there wasn't any viable way of growing/acquiring foods.

for those who watched likes of ZETA and Tomino's other works, it is rather easy to come to terms with the structure of the story as it is. One of my major issue for Tomino is the way he sets up characters' ability and transformation in personality and skills. Some characters gets abrupt personality changes and switch sides or become very good at say piloting some MS as if we have missed 3 episodes solely about the character.

so far, this series has already got more setup and payoff than his previous works, so in itself a plus.

Yeah, I remember. Just cannibalism seems kind of strange.. especially for gundam who is supposed to a more realistic / militaristic type mecha anime (im not complaining)... but I guess it will be explained in time.

I am definitely not complaining though, I like the show alot so far , its my favorite this season along with garo. and I think Mask is pretty cool villain, I guess he will be like belri's char maybe?

Have no idea how it will play out, he is main villain for a while then the "threat from space" comes and him and belri become allies later? or maybe mask will pretty much be main antagonist for whole show and capital tower main bad guys?

looking forward to finding out!

I couldn't agree more. The only thing I can't seem to comprehend about the show is what it is that is making people go out of their way to hate on it and complain about every little thing.

At first I felt like the negative reaction to the first few episodes was probably just people that aren't used to/don't like Tomino cryptic and fast paced story telling or Gundam fans that got into the franchise through modern AUs. But at this point it's become difficult for me to tell what it is about this pretty basic mecha show that apparently "makes no sense". I find it very difficult to believe that the average anime viewer would be simply unable to understand the series assuming they have been paying even the slightest bit of attention, so I can only conclude that people saying that are just shitting on it for some other reason that is indiscernible to me. I hope most of them have dropped the series or whatever, because I'm sick of reading about it.

Anyway, this was one of the better episodes so far. The action just looks gorgeous in this series, really the main draw so far. The battles give me a Zeta vibe for some reason, sans the music. I'm getting a bit more enthusiastic about this.

The series remains a mess, with blows across the board, but finally there is a minimum of dialogues that help to take stock of the situation.
The design is a little lowered as quality, a real shame.
The animations are good. Sorry that does not deepen the knowledge of the characters, remain poorly characterized, despite having a good aesthetics.
I await the next episode, which apparently looks interesting.

How the fuck are we near halfway done with this show already, not only has it felt like the entire show is stalling and padding itself with meaningless fights but the series has not explained itself. This has to be another case of the creator trying to purposely make something fail, theres no way. On the bright side luin is entertaining, too bad every single other character in this show is shit.

Seeing discussion about how difficult to understand G-Reco is surfaced on this thread... I'm with Kelhus, GarudaAiacos and the others here. It's not difficult to get at all and I'm just scratching my head at some questions I see about what is happening.
I considered that maybe as I am marathoning it I'm having an easier time than those who watched once a week, but there's plenty of people who had no problem following it in this thread alone.

I can see how Tomino's writing can be offputing, or how the characters can be unnapealing. But I don't understand how so many people struggle to follow a basic storyline, and frankly I think it's due to people not paying any attention to what they're watching and getting angry the show is not going out of it's way to explain everything right away.

About the episode itself, I thought there was a lot of noticeable off models, particularly for the characters. I also didn't care much for the Tricky backpack.
But we do get some insight in the threat from space and that's good. So they're building more stuff and Ameira (and possibly Capital Army) is building an army because they fear the worst. Also we got the information this Kashiba Mikoshi is what brings the batteries to the Capital Tower, whatever it is. Also if it wasn't obvious enough (though judging by some of the complaints this anime gets, it probably is not) the Pirate group is a front set up by Ameria to test taboo technology behind the curtains.

Oh and finally Manny realized Mask and Luin are the same person. It was about time, his disguise is Quattro-tier. I also like her haircut. Character design wise Manny is my favorite girl from this show, and I hope she gets more screentime eventually. I'm also liking Mask a lot more now than I did initially.

Tomino is a tricky guy. His writing is scattered and his leaps of storytelling logic are hard to get used to. For those of us who watched Gundam from the beginning, this isn't a difficult show, but for everyone else it's a bit more challenging. He just doesn't tell stories in a fluid manner, and definitely not in a "modern anime" sort of manner. The exasperation lots of you feel towards the confused fans is that same as I felt reading threads on Brain Powerd (way the fuck underrated IMO). Tomino always makes a mess out of his shows, but the mess is always interesting and unique.

Interesting... will the Moon colony (sort of an expansion of the old city or already the massive "country" of Turn A?) be the common ennemy? Is it the reason why Raraiya's design calls Loran's back ?

While I am used to the 50/50 Tomino recipe for his TV episodes (I still think it's a a bad habit), it's too bad he didn't went against it for a few eps here and there when he learned that his series would be half the size he was expecting it to be.

4/5

I'm utterly confused by those confusion claims.

Still grasping with the fact that Nono's and Nia's seiyuu spent 8 episodes mostly doing some memeworthy sounds.

G-Self's triple pack looks like butterfly wings...I sense something dangerous!

Aida worrying about potentially becoming a murderer impies that she's never actually shot an enemy, I guess.

The Pink G-Self was awesome, i like a lot the mecha design of this show.
It's clear that g-reco is linked with turn a, i wonder how much they are linked and how the Moon people's story will go on.
