Good episode! I enjoyed this first episode one very much.
I'm not familiar with Oshii humor, but this was a nice introduction to it.

Good episode to start things off. Hiromi, Gotoh, and Sakaki are really interesting characters in my opinion. Noah displayed her tomboy habits, and Asuma is pretty funny character.

I REMEMBER TOUCH. PICTURES CAME WITH TOUCH. A PAINTER IN MY MIND.

I thought I had fucked up the watching order when I finished the 47-ep TV series first but man do I feel glad that I finished that first. Now that I know everyone's personalities, it feels absolutely refreshing to see them all again from the start, and this time, with Oshii Mamoru directing.

Pretty good start, I liked Gotou for his real laid back, not really caring style. The others are alright too. I like the premise and how, well, slow the episode was. Not bad.

Is this the very first Patlabor show/movie I should watch? I want to see it in the best order possible. A little confused with this series vs. the longer tv series.

Compared to Oshii's other films I've seen this is a lot more lighthearted. Really enjoyed this first ep.

Was going to start with the TV series, but I read it would be a better idea to start with the OVA, then the three movies. Anyway, okay first episode. Nothing really stuck out and for some reason I thought it felt rushed.

Loved the animation and the characters, so looking forward to episode 2.

pretty laid back start. I like how normal this cast is. Not in a boring sense, but noone is to over the top.

I liked how they paced it. They didn't just start out with guns blazing action. They let us get to know the characters first. They even had the one guy complaining about how he wants to hurry up and shoot his guns, but they deliberately held back the action to build some anticipation for the fighting that eventually occurred.

Gotou favorite character for now: "Do you want the new Labors?" turn and watch her in the eyes "You can't have them".
Great troll.

Pretty good start, especially the comedy is right up my alley.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

Gonna watch this properly and in full as I'm watching a screening of the movie soon.

The animation looks gorgeous especially on Blu-ray.

Trigger-happy Ōta messes it up for his fellow cops (lol that one guy spinning his chair)

Izumi's "SEGI NO TEKKEN ROCKET PUNCH" cracked me up hard.

Well, she took on a three legged labor with a two legged one. Three limbs vs three.

Welp, blowing up a bunch of friendly police cars with a mecha-sized revolver for a comedic relief is a tad goofier than i expected this series to be. Let's see how it goes from here. Also, seeing cool mechas next to landline phones feels surreal in the modern age of smartphones and widespread wireless networks.

Oota's overflowing trigger-happiness makes him resemble Tackleberry from Police Academy in my eyes. Now i gotta check which came out first.

Are you quoting the episode here? Because in the translation i watched it with, it was "defeated three-handed labor with one hand" and then Shinohara corrected her that those were legs.

Laid-back would best describe it. I've never seen mecha looking so out of place, they literally make no goddamn sense.

Love how mechas aren't just some military weapons with zero applications outside of war. I like the concept that mechas have been integrated into society and that they have a variety of applications.

The humor was fine but it wasn't really my thing. Also, why does the Patlobor unit have baggy cloth over its joints ? Takes a bit of style out of the pretty good looking design. Onto the next episodes.

Pretty decent, the animation has aged really well considering this was one of Production IG's first real projects. Also hard to believe this was made by the same guy who directed Angel's Egg and Ghost in the Shell, won't be expecting anything like that I'm assuming

Well that was pretty funny, and started with a typical Oshii airplane lol. Pleased to see so many seiyuu from UY.

Pretty sure it's studio deen, not i.g. I.G. worked on the movie version.

It's not hard to believe it's Oshii, it's just that most people watch him backwards. Still many years until he directs GITS (which is Shirow's creation anyway). It's much easier to watch this episode and recognize Oshii if you watch his parts of Urusei Yatsura, or Red Spectacles and Gosenzosama Banbanzai (came out later than this OVA but it's one of the most Oshii things ever, unshaken by the influence of other creatives like Masami Yuki here).

It's kind of slow, but it also touches upon bureaucratic government stuff and whatnot. The characters, colors, and musick make the show. I'm excited for more!

i think this need to be watched before the movie because if you watch the movie with no context you'll get lost in some things
