Both of these series have a cute exterior but are darker at heart. They also have a similar feel to them and involve young girls/children and alien-like creatures that fight.

Both series take a genre (pet monsters for Shadow Star Narutaru, magical girls for Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica) and deconstruct it by removing every safety feature associated with it. Do NOT make the mistake of showing these to children unless scarring fragile young minds is your intent.

Both series from the same mangaka so there is alot of similar things. Character types, themes, approach, the structure of the story line.

both start out happy and cheerful but as it goes on you see the darkness and suffering that is caused by the peoples actions both are truly life altering shows

Both BoogiePop Phantom and Narutaru are fairly unique and interesting series. I can't really explain why without ruining one or the other, I will just say that if you liked all the messed up stuff in it, you will definately like the other one. Strange occurances and an overall interesting conclusion.

Both have plots about little kids taking control of powerful mechs (eva) or dragons (narutaru), and with all their psychological problems, a lot of things go wrong. The main characters of each are both cowards who never want to fight, and their allies are a depressed suicidal girl and a manic murderous girl. Comes complete with "Psychological" label.

both series have very happy beginnings, leading the viewer into immense shock and terror later in the series. in other words, both series's are very effictive works of shock and horror involving children as the perpetrators

Young people linked to strange creatures. All the masters can to see through the eyes of their controlled creatures; both "dolls" and "dragons" are able to fly and bring their masters with them; in either shows there are very much similar fights, battles, and murders done by the "dolls" and "dragons" while under control of human masters. Also the handled themes are pretty similar.

Both have teenagers with mysterious creatures that have strange powers, while occasionally sharing a similar feel. Narutaru might be more satisfying, though, since it's a full length series.

Both these anime are very messed up. Narutaru isnt as violent as Elfen Lied but its more disturbing. They both share some similar themes too.

Both have an "organization" of edgy teenagers wishing to "remake" the world as villains. But in execution, Boogiepop is less edgy overall and rather a hope story, with Narutaru going to the downer side.

Both shows has very colorful, childish and deceptive opening sequence, and also both shows despite the innocent looks, has quite dramatic, mature and tragic storyline. The art seems aimed for kids, but the story, certainly not.

Want something that will leave you absolutely speechless? Try one of these 2 titles. Trust me, you will be shocked.

Both are some of the most disturbing, horrifying anime you will ever watch. The difference is that Mnemosyne is disturbing right from the start, and it's also much more enjoyable.

Both are anime that attempt being horror but due to their terrible animation quality they end up being unvoluntarily funny. Either way, both have merit for at least trying and could be blamed for being a bad adaptation. Watch them if you want to have a laugh and maybe get disturbed.

(I figure it would be much of a stretch to call these two series similar, but there's a point to be made on their comparable qualities) We get separate arcs in which to tell the story, and not only like an episodic format but full-on standalone stories in both shows wherein characters get thrown under completely new circumstances and even the main character loses focus to an extent, this is of course not unique to both of these shows as they follow the shonen formula with a spin to it. Shiina is a character akin to that of Gon, an optimistic character who gets more and  read more

Kids receive powerful monsters and start to live normal lives with them. Then the world burns because of this and their minds explode. Now they have a lot of adult problems. Narutaru is MUCH more mature, while Digimon Tamers has a child-friendly approach to the theme.

Both get pretty intense and have fucked up things happen with innocent adolescents. For everyone who can appreciate and enjoy tragic beauty. Grand Guignol!

In both, a girl finds a strange creature that changes her life.

Both appear to be very childish in the very beginning but are in realty are two of the most disturbing animes you will ever find, and should never be watched by children!

Both have some strange unknown creature users, lot of cruelty and blood. Not the plot, but the idea is almost the same.

Psychological horror anime about middle schoolers being dragged into a strange and creepy world, connected to bodies other than their own.

children with special powers, a world that is not what it appears to be, young people faced with the reality of death and violence

Both random and make you go "WTF?"

While the settings and situations are very different, both have similar dark atmospheres and moods throughout. They involve a group of adolescents who get in over their heads in something which is more complex then they originally believed.
report Recommended by Asfaria
Anime about people who use strange creatures to fight. Both are darker and more psychological than they initially seem, though Mai-Hime is much better. Both include several different genres and jump around between them.
report Recommended by Asfaria
Both involve young kids and seem to be light-hearted at the start but becoming darker later. They both contain disturbing scenes of violence and suffering.

Bizarre, disturbing, and violent. These anime will leave you with your mouth open and thinking "What the fuck did I just watch?" If you want to feel disgusted and confused, watch these. Both series follow kids fight who must fight off monsters to survive and protect their friends.
