Kuroiwa Medaka ni Watashi no Kawaii ga Tsuujinai

To say that Mona Kawai is cute would be an understatement; she is breathtaking in every single way, and she knows it. At school, she is fawned over by boys and girls alike, and she graciously welcomes it all as a natural reaction to her irresistible charm. That is, until she comes across Medaka Kuroiwa, the boy who is seemingly immune to her overwhelming charisma. She goes out of her way to talk to him and even dials her cuteness up a notch, but no matter what she tries, Mona cannot wipe the scowl off Kuroiwa's face.

Backed into a corner, Mona is forced to use the most devastating weapon in her arsenal: her physical allure. Such drastic measures would leave other boys foaming at their mouths, but Kuroiwa remains unfazed by her attempts. Little does Mona know that the only reason Kuroiwa just barely abstains from succumbing to her charms is because he is training to be a monk and thus trying his best not to be held down by worldly pleasures. As Mona goes all out to entice Kuroiwa, she fails to realize that his unintentional chivalry might just make her fall for him instead.

A girl who wants everyone to go "KYAAAA~~" for her and a guy who's basically the physical manifestation of "Impure thought, BEGONE!!!." So, you know the drill—pat your logical and critical thinking, kiss them on the forehead, tell them to sit in the corner, and say, "Not the time, pals," because using them while watching this will only make you feel annoyed.

Kawai Mona, probably the cutest and prettiest girl in her universe. She has the perfect hair, the perfect face, the perfect chest size, the perfect thighs—perfect everything. Everyone falls head over heels for her. Everyone, except Kuroiwa Medaka, an unbothered titan of pure, holy ... mind, who doesn’t care a single bit about physical appearance... or does he?


If you’re into comedy-heavy romance stories with zero melodramatic jump scares, this anime is perfect for you. It’s the kind of show that’ll have you giggling like an idiot or burying your face in your pillow, screaming “KYAAAA!” in delight. If that’s the vibe you’re after, you’re going to love it.

And if you’re okay with—or even enjoy—a fair share of fanservice, this anime has you covered. Imagine a heroine who’s constantly shouting, “LOOK AT MY CHEST! LOOK AT MY ABS! LOOK AT MY THIGHS! CHECK OUT THIS SEXY POSE!” It’s unapologetically bold, and yes, you’ll probably get a full 360-degree shot of her entire crotch before you know it.

Overall, this anime is an absolute blast to watch! Just a heads-up—don’t overthink it. Leave your logic at the door, sit back, and let yourself get swept up in the fun. Overanalyzing it will only hold you back from enjoying it to the fullest!

Mixed Feelings

Preliminary (3/12 eps)

It will not be a good idea going into this thinking it'll be some kind of a Sketch-based Rom-Com-- it has the premise of one but not the execution. So far, this is simply a 'Romance' with a comical approach, a redundant one at that.

The Female MC's character shtick works for this shows' gimmick as the setup for the joke: Mona (FMC), someone who's so used to being adored by everyone since birth, gets ticked off when Medaka (the MMC) wouldn't fall for her charms. So, she makes it a point to make him fall for her charms by pulling some cute and/or sexy stuff ... on him every chance she gets.
On the other hand, Medaka's role is to produce the punchline for whatever antics Mona initiates. His shtick is that he actually gets charmed by Mona, BUT, he's fighting the urge of "temptation" due to his religious belief.

On paper, that seems good enough to make a series of situational comedy. But the problem is, Medaka's reasoning for not being charmed by Mona is quite limiting for the gags since it's basically just him 'Not wanting to react'.
Instead of something that could result in a misinterpretation, or could reflect the joke in a weird comical way, all we get from his shtick is him trying his darndest not to show any facial reaction to Mona, then looking annoyed or looking away afterwards, with the punchline simply being that Mona looked stupid for her antics thinking her charms didn't work on Medaka, when it did.

With all that being said, all these things will only be an issue if this is deemed as a Sketch-based Rom-Com.
If this is looked at as simply a comical Romance though, well... it's still quite lacking in that department.
They're gonna need a lot more involvement from side-characters to make it work or else, be it as Romance or as Comedy, this is just going to be a very redundant show. Here's hoping it finds its footing.

Preliminary (3/12 eps)

Let's start with the positives. The animation is pretty and it's got some solid comedy. The dub is pretty good and the accents are a nice touch. Mona is a fun character whose got depth, so while she's charming she's also got a pretty terrible personality but she's not portrayed as a sociopath, which is nice.

There are two issues with this show though. The one is that the one gag is has gets exhausting almost immediately. If it showed signs of gaining depth as a show and analysing these characters who've all defined they're lives by a single trait then that's be fine, or at ... least acceptable, but it doesn't. The show really loves this one joke and honestly it gets old really quickly.

The second is a more serious issue for me and only applies to adult men. The fan service isn't fan service, isn't just straight up sexualising an attractive school girl for the pleasure or sad older guys. If youi're a teenager or young adult then you get a pass, but if you're over the age of, say, 24, and watching this then you need to take a good look at yourself. I get that anime often sexualises schoolkids and it's never NOT creepy, we just have to accept it, but at least there's often a vague air of deniability. This has none, it wants you to enjoy this show and the attractive girl. I felt disgusting watching it, almost like I was watching a show designed for incels. I know this isn't going to be a popular take but I just felt gross watching a show that clearly sexualises someone so young.
