Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte

Nestled away on the rooftop of Tenikai General Hospital is the unconventional Department of Investigative Pathology headed by the eccentric Dr. Takao Ameku. The tiny department, consisting of Takao and her sole resident Yuu "Kotori" Takanashi, treats complex cases that most other departments within the hospital cannot resolve on their own.

The mystery-obsessed Takao always tries to insert herself into cases that capture her fancy—much to the dismay of her colleagues and the police. Even if her meddling creates more problems for the hospital and those around her, none can deny the brilliance that the young department head exhibits as she weaves a diagnosis together. No matter the specialty, no case is impossible for Takao and a somewhat reluctant Takanashi to solve.

Preliminary (8/12 eps)

In my opinion, this is the anime of the season, and the theme itself is already quite original for an anime (when you know that every season is filled with repetitive generic anime...).
The setting and the mysteries surrounding them are quite varied and above all keep us awake, the characters are quite endearing and break away from the classic framework of anime characters (except maybe the MC who is a tsundere, but don't worry she's not boring to watch, far from it).

I've read some negative reviews, mentioning a complaint about anime drama and easy-to-guess plots, I hear it of course, but it's not ... as if dramas like doctor house, good doctor or the rookie are specific to anime (doctor detective must surely be one of the first) and on the contrary it's a chance to explore a new theme in anime, because between us anime always follows the same genres and styles repeated over and over again....
And as for the ease of the puzzles, yes, some of them seem easy to guess, but that's where you get tricked, because sometimes it's the most obvious choice that's the right one, while at other times it's the least obvious, making us hesitate and doubt constantly.
Sure, it's easy to talk about simple puzzles when you've seen the answers to your questions, but in this game, everything is simple...

Mixed Feelings

Preliminary (4/12 eps)

On one hand, it's a less complex version of House where the problematic doctor is a cute anime girl instead of a gross 40 year old man.

On the other hand, it's just an ordinary detective story that uses the medical environment as set dressing and in reality has very little reason to be about a doctor.

Neither hand is particularly appealing.

I mean, if you're a huge fan of detective stories, it's not bad. Detective is one of my favorite genres, and I enjoy watching Ameku MD solve the mysteries. However, the sell of the series is the "doctor" gimmick, and it relies on its gimmick for ... the sell far too much for something that hardly even utilizes it, as these are moreso just regular mysteries (usually relating to death) that have a little medical flavoring. If you're going to do a gimmick, you really need to use it. The detective doesn't really need to be a doctor, just someone with investigative skills and basic medical knowledge. It just leaves me feeling disappointed that the gimmick isn't utilized.

In fact, sometimes medical knowledge is hardly even required. I'm all for a fairplay whodunnit, but some of these mysteries are pretty predictable, so it's really funny how no one in the show can seem to solve it. Come on now.

And I don't find our eponymous character to be all that compelling either. She's your standard eccentric detective character, although they act like she's much more eccentric than she really is. As I stated before, this show was obviously inspired by House (they drop an "it's not Lupus" two minutes in) but she lacks the psychological complexity of the bad doctor. Her "eccentricity" is summed up by just being a little meaner and unprofessional than most people, but if I wanted to see that I would go back to working my customer service job. Just being kind of a jerk does not a compelling detective make.

Her Watson is also not compelling in the slightest. Detectives have assistants because they need someone to ask all of the characters the audience is asking, but those assistants should not be used only for that. A good Watson is a character in his own right. This guy (I can't even remember his name he's so nothing) is just a piece of anime white bread.

Also, the animation is a little off model. That doesn't bother me, but it might bother you.

It's not bad. It is entertaining to see the mysteries be solved. But it's nothing special.

The anime should be called "That time Dr. House died and got reincarnated with a cute Japanese c.s.i girl who cosplays as a doctor."

story: Okay, but so far it's not possible to know what the author wants from the work. Besides, the author tries to present the character as an intelligent character, and when necessary she simply comes up with a solution out of nowhere. But it's actually interesting to see a c.s.i. cosplaying as a doctor^^..

characters: ok;
art: good
overall: Overall it's ok, it's good enough to pass the time, but I prefer House, M.D as a medical series
