Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte

Nestled away on the rooftop of Tenikai General Hospital is the unconventional Department of Investigative Pathology headed by the eccentric Dr. Takao Ameku. The tiny department, consisting of Takao and her sole resident Yuu "Kotori" Takanashi, treats complex cases that most other departments within the hospital cannot resolve on their own.

The mystery-obsessed Takao always tries to insert herself into cases that capture her fancy—much to the dismay of her colleagues and the police. Even if her meddling creates more problems for the hospital and those around her, none can deny the brilliance that the young department head exhibits as she weaves a diagnosis together. No matter the specialty, no case is impossible for Takao and a somewhat reluctant Takanashi to solve.

M.D. Ameku: Doctor Detective is exactly what it sounds like. A doctor named Takao Ameku is the only competent doctor in this world who not only solves medical mysteries, but also other cases even the police need help solving.

Like I mentioned, like most of these detective shows, Takao is really the only competent person in this show so far, but the problem is she's a massive bitch to everyone. She's basically Maomao lite, without the likability. I just don't like Takao, she leans too far into the snarky, cocky, immature adult child for me. And for the rest of the characters shown so ... far...they don't really have any personality.

I didn't choose to watch this show for the characters though obviously, I wanted to see how good the medical/mystery aspect was. It's good. I won't lie and say they're the most realistic medical stuff, but they have it mostly correct. I won't spoil everything that happens in the first case, but the victim has blue blood, VERY blue blood and it's later confirmed it was from Methemoglobinemia, which does not, in fact, turn your blood blue, or at least THAT blue. It also causes Cyanosis which turns the fingernails, skin, and lips bluish which I don't remember the victim having. Despite it not being 100% legit, it's still a fun case with a disease that isn't too commonly known.

This remaining as good as it is depends on how accurate the cases going forward is, and I would honestly love to see a real doctor react to this anime, kind of like how real scientists did with Dr. Stone. Because right now I'm relying on Google to tell me whether or not these things are true and I don't trust Google that much.

If you have time to kill, I would recommend this, it'll only be 12 episodes and plus these types of shows are the most bingeable in my opinion. Not the best mystery/medical show by a long shot, but it's still not nearly the worst.

Mixed Feelings

Preliminary (5/12 eps)

Genius doctor Ameku Takao solves the mystery of the episode no one else can solve, other than me, five minutes into the episode.

If you are expecting Dr. House, don't. Stop. It's not Dr. House. Other than the first two episode's completely ridiculous contrived "mystery", the rest are solvable by anyone with IQ higher than 77, which is who the anime targets: people of sub-average intelligence. Girl watches flashing images on her phone then almost waddles underneath a train. Gee huh I wonder what that might be! Obviously it's... a cursed video! Huh? It's not, Dr. Ameku? Wow, sasuga Dr. Ameku! You're the best, Dr. Ameku! ... Who could have guessed what it REALLY was! I guess no one at the hospital can do differential diagnosis!

People walk into a cave crypt, open up a sarcophagus with a corpse. People start getting terribly sick! Now, knowing that Japan tends to be humid and warm, dark places tend to have mushrooms growing there, and decaying organic matter feeds the nature's decomposers, the cause is obviously... A CURSE! Huh? It's not, Dr. Ameku? Wow! I would have never guessed!

See, this is the pattern that just keeps repeating. People burn up for no apparent reason? Curse!... Wait, it's not?... Wow, Dr. Ameku, you are such a genius for curbing our senseless magical thinking and superstitions we hold as MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS! What could we have done without you!? Probably trepanning.

I'm only not giving it a <3-2 rating because the girls are kind of cute. I absolutely loathe the viewer is being treated like a frankly retarded mongrel. Again, it's not House - the anime does not intend to surprise you, it does not intend to fool you, it does not intend for you to give you a challenge or mystery to figure out. It does not arrive at a surprising conclusion that has all the piece of the puzzle there, it does not surprise you by subverting your expectations. The "surprises" are simply contrived and absolutely nobody of a sound, non-schizophrenic, wildly reaching mind without the writer's insight could possibly guess.
When the episode is not meant to "surprise" you, it's obvious from 5 minutes in what it is, and the mystique of the episode is gone - you might as well just watch the next one instead of torturing yourself with 20 or so minutes of everyone possessing roughly 5 brain cells in total, and not being smart enough to share them to give them a good communal rub. Only our genius Dr. Ameku is allowed to use her brain.

This anime is the definition of a genius character written by a midwit. It suffers from exactly what you'd expect in a story that features a genius, but the writer is of average intelligence at best. Is it watchable? Yeah, I guess. Just turn off your brain and pretend you're one of the doctors.

This show is just not as clever as it wants to be. Just go watch house MD instead please. It's a detective show cosplaying as a medical drama, but the decisionmaking and characterisation of the MC and those around her just make no sense to who they are as physicians, and don't make ANY of them likeable.

The show is only able to keep suspense by misinforming the viewers or hiding information (or just being streaight up mediacally inaccurate), making it not very good at being a mystery. It's incredibly easy to predict the twists when they don't do that, and the writing is generally ... not very high in quality. The art is mediocre but acceptable and the soundtrack is not bad at all but it just doesn't make up for the nonsensical plot and character writing. I dropped this during the 3rd episode when the mystery was solvable within the first minute of the episode and the supposed genius doctor (who is a bad "awkward genius" stereotype) takes forever to get to the point and does so in an incredibly inefficient way.

Not recommended for poor writing of plot and characters. Music and art is decent though.
