I liked this part of the Yuuki Yuuna story but it was not without its flaws, which is why I decided to mark this as mixed feelings. The beginning of the story was a bit slow and at times the transitions were so poor that I had trouble keeping track of what was happening and how certain characters related back to other characters. After a while, things felt less confusing so I'm not sure if I just missed something or it was a genuine flaw with the story telling.
I liked that the story tied up some things that I had questions about in previous

Yozakura-san Chi no Daisakusen
(Manga)
add
If this is marked as preliminary, I wrote it before MAL registered the manga ended.
Today Mission: Yozakura Family ended and I'm genuinely sad to see it go. However, I'm not sure I can say everyone reading this would enjoy this manga, which is why I marked this review mixed feelings. The first several chapters of the manga feel like they meander and at times I almost dropped the title, but the thing that kept me reading were the characters. They're all written so distinctly from one another and so vibrantly that even the haphazard beginning can't diminish my interest in them. Luckily, when the ... Jan 10, 2025
This is one of those stories where if you've seen the first anime in the franchise you know what's going to happen, but the ride is worth it anyway. Among a lot of plot points that were easily guessable given what we already knew, it was interesting to see some of the unexpected plot points come into play and illustrate how truly ruthless Taisha can be. It was also interesting to meet the new and recurring characters and gain a better understanding of the backstory we heard in the first anime.
I would seriously recommend watching the first Yuuki Yunna anime before watching this one. ... Jan 6, 2025
The nice thing about the Madoka franchise is that so far there's a lot of care put into foreshadowing, structure, and pacing. This movie was no exception. From the beginning we're brought into a world that's not quite right and as the characters begin to realize this, we're taken places we can guess but also places we can't guess, which is what made this movie truly enjoyable. True to the original anime, I found myself caught up in the emotions of it all and the ending had an impact and left me eager for more. I'm really glad that there's a fourth movie. I can't

Like the first movie, this movie is a recap of the second half of the original anime. Once again, I don't normally recommend or have patience for these types of movies but since it's been so long since I saw the original anime, I had forgotten enough and could appreciate the vibe enough that I enjoyed this movie.
The ending is still very strong and I really do like it. I decided to watch the recap movies so that I could watch the subsequent movies and I'm left curious how the story could continue from here. I'm looking forward to finding that out. I think ... Jan 2, 2025
I don't normally enjoy movies that basically rehash the series, but it's been long enough since I saw the original anime that I didn't mind it this time. I thought that the movie did well pick and choosing how to pace the scenes and which major plot points to showcase. I'm glad that I chose to watch it before going to the third movie, which is a sequel to the original anime because it's a good refresher.
That said, I think that if I'd recently completed the original anime, this movie would have felt repetitive and unnecessary. So I would really only recommend it for ... Dec 28, 2024
I remember when this was serialized in Jump, this section of the story kept holding and losing and then holding my attention again. At the time I though tit was because of the periodic hiatuses, but with the story out weekly in this anime format, I can see part of it is the story itself. There's a lot of strengths in this section of the finale but also some weaknesses. There are places where things more too fast and move too slow. It was great remembering some parts I'd forgotten but also eye opening to why I forgot others. It's a shame that the story

Ranma ½ (2024)
(Anime)
add
I always enjoyed the manga and so it's fantastic to see Ranma get the same treatment as the 2022 Urusei Yatsura anime. It was so fun to see so many of my favorite characters again and get to laugh at the early storylines all over again. I think that the animation style really lent well to the story and gave all of the characters some extra charm. The only complaint I have is that it was only one cour, but I can understand if that means the quality can keep up, though it'd be nice if it didn't take several years to finish all the

When I first saw the manga, it was several chapters in and so I didn't end up reading it, and I'm a little sad I didn't just jump in because this series is so fun and engaging. The characters are easy to like and root for. It's nice watching a blend of slice of life, magical girl, and work place comedy/drama. It also has the benefit of most magic girl stories that are shounen of feeling a bit fresh since they're approaching the subgenre from a different perspective as shoujo typically does. I don't have much to complain about either. It didn't set my brain

Dragon Ball Super: Broly
(Anime)
add
I really enjoyed this movie. It was fun to see everyone again and to see what Super would do with Brolly since I missed those manga chapters. I liked the silly jokes, the added drama to everyone's back story, and how the movie kept things moving. I'm glad this was a movie and not a cour of the anime too because I think that trying to drag it out would be a mistake.
That said, I do think there were times things could have been faster in places and slower in others. I think it'd have been kind of fun to explore who Broly ... |
