Kimi ni Todoke 3rd Season

Summer is in full swing, and so is the love between Sawako Kuronuma and Shouta Kazehaya. From attending summer school together to meeting each other's parents, the two enjoy quality time together while tackling the feelings of self-doubt and emotional strain that come with their newfound love.

Meanwhile, Sawako's close friends, Chizuru Yoshida and Ayane Yano, struggle through their own romantic dilemmas as their past experiences with relationships clash with their present feelings. Full of inner turmoil, the youngsters' desire for intimacy persists through their second year of high school as they weave through the labyrinth of indecision and insecurity that is love.

10 years of waiting for a continuation and personally it was worth every year of waiting. Objectively the creative decisions that were made may not have been the best for the work.

In my heart the season gets a 10, because seeing Sawako and company once again made me really happy. Reliving memories from 10 years ago and seeing where my life was then and how it is now was a good exercise in reflection and nostalgia. As for the story, the fact that Sawako and Kazehaya's relationship has developed on a secondary level is appreciated because it allows the secondary characters to have more screen ... time. Seeing the clumsy progress of Ryuu and Chizuru was something tender to see, as two teenagers try to cross that thin line from a friendship of years to a romantic relationship. The story arc of Ayane looking for a person who can love her, romantically, with the same intensity that her friends love her. Honestly, I think Ayane's development is the best of the season because it's not about being able to love someone else, but about loving yourself. As for the story, there aren't many complaints, and there's not much to criticize in this section.

Where there is something to criticize is the production decisions. I don't know who said that 1-hour episodes should be made, but please let him resign or get fired. One of the most criticizable points of the story is its slow pace. In 24-25 minute episodes you can enjoy the slow progress, in 1-hour episodes the story feels extremely heavy. So many things happen that at the end of an episode you forget what happened at the beginning and in the middle. Sometimes it generates the typical "how much more is left?" I understand that Netflix finds the one-hour format to be useful in other types of productions, but the audience that anime is aimed at is so ingrained in the 20-minute format that this feels too inorganic.

I hope they don't put the work on ice for another 10 years and then close it. It's good to revive this type of franchise to exploit nostalgia, but at least if you want to exploit it today, give it the treatment it deserves.

(this is more of a personal review, just for my own logging)
I was pretty astonished by this season! The slow, yet enjoyable pace of the first two seasons were pleasant. I know the ride I signed up for and had a great time doing so. We got plenty of developments this time around, and the episodes felt a little bit more like movies. So many things happened; twists and turns throughout the whole season, and the pay-off overall felt rewarding, deserved, and satisfying.

The music - incredible. Art-style was, once again like previous seasons, soft, yet detailed. You can go from cute chibi style to ... some artistic pieces that could serve well as legitimate pieces. AND they knew when to use them appropriately and tastefully! I found myself laughing plenty of times, feeling the emotions of the characters at others. It really captivated me and held my attention throughout. I wasn't expecting to be this satisfied with the third season (especially in hour-long episodes), but here we are. I love my girls and Kenta!!! (and Ayane especially she is cool)

Yet another Anime with a loser MC guy

Over the past few weeks, I binge-watched Kimi ni Todoke from season 1 through season 3. While this series is undeniably wholesome and heartwarming, it has some problems too. At the heart of its flaws lies the protagonist, Kazehaya.

Let me be blunt: Kazehaya is a cuck. Kazehaya is not as bad as the MCs cucks you see in other romance series, but he's getting close there. The deeper you dive into the story, the clearer it becomes that he ranks among the most underwhelming, spineless leads in romance anime. He spends most of his screen time imagining useless ... and boring scenarios about their relationship, which resulted in him not talking or spending time with Sawako. For a guy supposedly in love, he barely acts like a boyfriend until the eleventh hour. Kazehaya also says mmhm about 100 times throughout the show because he's an empty shell.

If we’re being honest, Sawako carried this relationship on her back. Without her unrelenting kindness and effort, this romance wouldn’t have made it past the starting line. And that says everything about Kazehaya’s role—or lack thereof.

When comparing him to other characters, the gap becomes even more glaring. Ryu, with his laconic charm and quiet strength, is leagues ahead of Kazehaya despite barely saying a word. Even Kento, a side character, manages to be more engaging and proactive than our so-called male lead.

I hope there will be a season 4 where we can spin the attention more to Ryu and chizu like season 3 did slightly.

I rated this show highly because even though I had to tolerate a borderline cuck like kazehaya, the rest of the characters were nice. But if you cant stomach that then I wouldn't recommend watching this show.

Conclusion: Sawako, nice. Chizu, nice. Ayane, nice. Ryu, nice. Kento, nice. Kazehaya, bad.
