Synopsis

Seirei Academy is a prestigious school attended by the very best students in Japan. Alisa Mikhailovna "Alya" Kujou, the half-Russian and half-Japanese treasurer of the school's student council, is known for her intelligence, stunning looks, and rigid personality. Contrasting her near-flawless persona, Alya's unmotivated classmate Masachika Kuze slacks off during lessons and seems to show no interest in her.

Initially irritated, Alya gradually becomes more intrigued by Masachika and starts expressing her affection for him in Russian. However, she is oblivious to his secret—he understands the language fluently! Due to a childhood friend who was temporarily staying in Japan, Masachika has been studying Russian in hopes of reuniting with her.

As the two spend more time together, the playful and eccentric relationship between them quickly deepens. In the meantime, both must learn to navigate their new growing feelings for one another.

Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian had all the makings of a successful Rom-Com, and, I think it came out with moderate success. That being said, it's kind of obvious where this series lost points.

Story & Characters: Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian has a pretty standard story for a school, teen romantic comedy. That is, girl meets boy in class, they crush, they get closer, success. We're not at the end yet, but that's essentially what happens. The formula works for the most part, though there are some issues along the way.

Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou is a recent transfer ...

Mixed Feelings
Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian

Animation – 5/10
The animation is decent but lacks standout elements. Character designs and backgrounds are functional, but there’s little visual flair. The execution is clean but uninspired.

Storyline – 5/10
The story follows Masachika Kuze, a laid-back high school student, and his classmate Alya, who occasionally expresses her true feelings in Russian. While the premise is intriguing, the plot follows standard rom-com tropes without adding much depth or originality.

Characters – 6/10
Alya’s tsundere personality works well, and Masachika plays the easygoing protagonist convincingly. However, character development remains shallow, and the supporting cast feels underutilized.

I'll try to be nice here: This is bad. Really, really bad. It was supposed to be a fun romcom about a high schooler who only expresses her real feelings in Russian, but this focuses mostly on the student council eletion, which is as boring as it sounds. The anime tries to make it seem like it's a big deal, but fails to convince. I don't know how those elections go in Japan, but I don't think it matters cause the work doesn't answer the question "why does this character need to have this so much?". Without understanding Alya's motivation, it's hard to identify, connect ...
