The 12th and final episode of Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san (Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian) ended with an announcement on Wednesday that a second season for the anime is in production.

Produced by animation studio Doga Kobo, the television anime adapting Sun Sun Sun's romantic comedy light novel began airing on July 3. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with multiple subtitles and dubs.

Sun Sun Sun began penning the novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in May 2020. Kadokawa released the first volume in February 2021 under its Sneaker Bunko imprint, featuring illustrations by Momoco. The ninth volume went on sale on August 30.

Saho Tanamachi began serializing a manga adaptation on the Magazine pocket app in October 2022. Kodansha published the fifth volume on August 7.
Yen Press licensed the light novel in English in April 2022 and released the fifth volume on August 20. The sixth volume is scheduled for a December 10 release. Kodansha USA published the manga adaptation digitally in English through its K Manga service.

Synopsis
Seirei Academy is a prestigious school attended by the very best students in Japan. Alisa Mikhailovna "Alya" Kujou, the half-Russian and half-Japanese treasurer of the school's student council, is known for her intelligence, stunning looks, and rigid personality. Contrasting her near-flawless persona, Alya's unmotivated classmate Masachika Kuze slacks off during lessons and seems to show no interest in her.

Initially irritated, Alya gradually becomes more intrigued by Masachika and starts expressing her affection for him in Russian. However, she is oblivious to his secret—he understands the language fluently! Due to a childhood friend who was temporarily staying in Japan, Masachika has been studying Russian in hopes of reuniting with her.

As the two spend more time together, the playful and eccentric relationship between them quickly deepens. In the meantime, both must learn to navigate their new growing feelings for one another. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Fantastic news! I am really looking forward to season 2 of Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian! Thoroughly enjoyed season 1!

@Antanaru This LN was extremely popular long before even the idea of anime.

Well, maybe it's just a ploy to separate the courses of one show from each other. As is now fashionable with movie franchises.

@RobertBobert I understand studios, or rather production committees, being reluctant to commit to making a long running show with how entertainment consumption looks nowadays, but I still have a gripe with this artificial season splitting and making breaks in the broadcast when I'm almost sure every split cour series is planned from the beginning as a 24/26 episodes show. I doubt the production would be cancelled even with bad ratings.

@malvarez1 Isn't it just Uesaka Sumire fans?

Lets' f*cking go !!!!

I never got the hype for this one, TBH. Seemed like a generic light novel rom-com.

@DragyG Let's GO. I was quite disappointed when they skipped Masachika's Russian in the finale, so I'll keep my expectations low.

@polnalyubvi @habib_kun What are you guys' expectations?

@Antanaru I can only guess, but as far as I can see, the very idea of continuous multiple courses is now considered problematic and risky. Although if you remember, 15-20 years ago it was considered normal to allocate 20+ episodes to a pure SoL like K-ON! . Nowadays, a stereotype has even formed that two or more cours mean a more solid plot than in a conventional one cour show.

@RobertBobert Guess industry standards really plummeted if you can make a season without an ending or beginning then. Series used to have self-contained arcs, now self-contained seasons are too much to ask for.

Sep 19, 12:19 PM by Antanaru

@Antanaru It's officially being promoted as season two, so "we" are calling it season two. I don’t know what reasons are behind this and to be honest I don’t want to speculate, but if you want, take this as a pure formality.

Sep 19, 11:11 AM by RobertBobert

Can we stop calling stuff like that a second season? It's just taking a quarter off from producing a single season because... not sure, poor management? Short attention span of the audience? Tax reasons? The last episode just ended like every one before it without any significant conclusion or closure. They just stopped making the show for the next 3 months. It's the same for any other 24 episode show nowadays.

Enjoyed the first season quite a bit so I’m looking forward to this.

@EcchiGodMamster

Beach time! :D

There are some lewd scenes in the next volumes by the way~

Oh my, that will be spicy! :D

I can't wait to watch season 2 of Roshidere soon enough!

@Master_Chef

All student council members will be at the beach.

Well, Masachika will spend more time with Masha than everyone else in the next few arcs~

@NewestPersonHere a beach episode? Count me in 😂 better have Yuki

Sep 19, 12:17 AM by Master_Chef

This is good news, super excited. Love Masachika as a protagonist.

Sep 18, 11:24 PM by AnimeTheOVA

Super excited even though I haven't had a chance to watch S1. Great news!

I hope the 2nd season would bring the best of Alya because so far in season 1 she is the most bland character in the series.

For someone whose name is in the title she is much less interesting than Yuki or Masha so hopefully she would be better in s2.
