The main characters cross-dress into this all-girl school for the apparently same reason (which I will not reveal since some might consider this a sppoiler -.-''). Even though the genre of these series don't really match, there were a lot of things that were particularly similar. For example, there's a ''Mariya'' in both series o.O Not only that, I feel that the story lacked something... in both series Otome might be a bit more... shoujo than maria+holic, but they are mainly the same: it follows the life of several girls and one boy.

similar style and humor. and both main characters are in "despair".

These show have almost the exact same story line. The only difference is that the main character is male intstead of female and it the bulter not the master that is crossdressing.

both shows involve a girl that moves to an all girls school. also, both schools in both shows focus on religion.

Both are associated to cross-dressing that contain hilarious gags complemented with an interesting cast of characters.

Princess Princess and Maria Holic follow the exact same premise, having males crossdressing as females in a school setting. The comedy element in both derives almost exclusively from the unlikely situations that arise from having traps as the main characters. Maria Holic is a parody that targets shows like Marimite with gusto while Princess Princess is not as referential and more interested in mocking yaoi conventions. They may be niche titles, to some extent at least, but these titles are very likely to share at least some of their fanbase.

The Main character in Girls Bravo is allergic to girls/ similar in maria Holic but she is allergic to guys

If you've seen Pani Poni Dash, and loved it's unique style, then make sure you check out Akiyuki Shinbo's latest show Maria†Holic.

Both are very funny yuri (or anti-yuri^^) comedy with specific sense of humour.

Both main characters are happy go lucky and pervy lesbians and most characters are beautiful females. They also have similar humor and color schemes in art and graphics.

Well, these two series are quite absurd but in a rather fun and amusing way. Both series has a ALOT of comedy, gags, and a strange cast of characters. With these cast of characters comes forth comedy, drama, and romance although presented in a peculiar way. Both series' OP songs are very catchy. Additionally being part of Shaft, expect strange humor delivered to your eyes with a stranger story that is worth the watch.

Lots of laughs! They both contain a lot of humor based around yuri, sadomasochism, and parodies of other anime, as well as those moments when the "reality" of the show is blurred. As there are many scenes in Ebiten you are unable to differ between actual content and parody, in Maria Holic there are many times you are unable to differ between Kanako's delusions and reality.

- Female protagonist is into females - School / Academy environment - Blonde girl is love interest - Funny to watch, plot is not serious

Want to see more comedic situations involving a manipulative sadist (Yozora) messing with a perverted ditz (Sena) on a daily basis? If yes is your answer, then Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai is the show for you!

Both shows have female characters that are canon lesbians. Those girls share some parts of personality because they both react in the same way when a cute girl appears. Too, they live close to a lot of girls and admire them while they do daily things. Also, both girls are bounded to a guy they don't want to be with.

Both are comedies about a pervert who is being controlled/tourtered by someone. In Maria Holic the main charcther is a girl and is being tourtered by a guy while in MM! its a guy being tourtered who by a girl.So they're kind of like opposites but are basically the same story.

You'll laugh, cry (from laughter xD) yet certainly love what these yuri/shoujo ai series will entice you with and let you discover. - Unspeakable secrets must be kept between two girls alone (how amusing Shidou-san) - Exciting events and circumstances unique to each - Adorable voices, faces and strong personalities that you'll fall in love with

Maria Holic has Mariya using Kanako to keep his secret of being a boy from being found out while Kirino from Oreimo uses her brother Kyousuke to keep her secret of being an otaku. Both are also comedies.

Sense of humor is very similar; both main chars are aliened (somehow); Ellie and Kanako are both crazy and very funny, both lives in their own world of imagination. Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai and Maria+Holic gave me the same sensation while watching.

Both series are satires of their respective genres.
report Recommended by djwhack03
They are both comedies and use both of their "yaoi" and "yuri" and dramatize them to such a great degree, that it's plain hilarious. Although, Maria†Holic can be said to be more of an anime that has a sadistic-like humor. >> If your looking for something that's somewhat lighter in sadistic-ness and is funnier, but still like Maria†Holic, than I'd say that you should try watching Kyou Kara Maoh!

Even if the storylines are completely different, there’s something in Maria Holic that reminded me of Zombie Loan. Firstly, they share a school setting (even if ZL, on the opposite of MH, is not entirely set in a dormitory); female leads who are treated as slaves by their male counterpart; shoujo-ai and comedy, even if in different amounts. Also, the nekomimi dorm leader in MH is akin to two ZL characters: Kuze Shimotsuki (since they’re both very young and cute principals) and Koume (similar both in appearance and mannerism).

Both have the yuri theme. But there is some differences for one the guy stays a guy just acts like a girl in Maria Holic unlike in Kashimashi Girl Meets Girl. Both are rather funny. Also in each they are represented in the school theme.

Overaction and sometimes absentminded main characters.

Though the stories are very different, the animation style is very much the same. It's sort of hard to see the story and what's going on. Maria Holic I find it easier to follow than Bakemonogatari. The way each story is told has the same style to it. The people tend to talk with little emotion sometimes, and multiple screens with text pop up during those speeches. The camera angles also seem to drift to different sections of the area that the characters are around, such as the sky, the ground, or objects that may or may not reflect on what is being said. They both remind me of how the two main characters in it are kind of alike, with having the boy being shorter and the girl being taller; they both also have romance, if Maria†Holic's morbid gender bending "romance" counts. Maria†Holic is NOT a yuri anime by the way, it just uses the "yuri" and dramatizes it by a great degree that makes it hilarious.

Although they are different in many ways (for one, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro isn't "yuri"), they are alike by how one of the main characters (Maria & Neuro) are both insane and have a sadistic personality; there's also the fact of the other main characters in it, who are forced to become their "slaves" (Yoko & Kananko). Also, the other characters in both of these animes are constantly easily decieved. I think that wathcing Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro will remind you strongly of Maria and Kananko from Maria†Holic.

Both are comedic using well made characters that uses characteristic that does not goes along with the usual anime tropes. This recommendation are only for those who are searching another anime with similar type of comedy use, other than that this two animes are totally different.
report Recommended by kimwonshik
Both animes consist of weird camera angles, "typical" high school anime girls and plentiful parodies (Though much more careful observations are required in Hidamari Sketch). Yes, Maria Holic is a darker anime compared to Hidamari Sketch (which is ironic seeing that the story is set in a Catholic school for girls). However, both animes are full of subtle comedies and packed with randomness (which is always a plus for me)

Both animes are parodies of anime stereotypes. While Maria+Holic is a play on the sweet boarding school yuri animes, Dai Mahou Touge is a parody on magical girl animes. Both feature a main character who, upon first glance, is a sweet, blonde girl. However, both Punie and Maria are sadistic on the inside. Both shows are comedies and really easy to watch. Dai Mahou Touge is really short (only 8 episodes) and I'd definitely recommend it if you want a good parody of the animes you're used to watching.

both have traps, and similar setting and comedy
report Recommended by metrocide
They have a quite similar animation and soundtrack (both are made by SHAFT). In both animes a girl gets under main character's control. Also in boths there are some shojo-ai elements.
report Recommended by Davros95
The main character is blonde as well as a trap who makes the other character very uncomfortable.

You have to know Onii-sama e to really get Maria Holic. Onii-sama e and similar series are what Kanako is hoping for when she enters her all-girls school. When she's feeling particularly sentimental about a girl, she'll transform into Onii-sama e style - sometimes in a pose directly lifted from the pages of the manga.
