Mieruko-chan

Miko Yotsuya's eyes water as she fixates on a single spot on her phone—she ignores yet another dreadful, horrific monster that is in her face, uttering the disturbing words: "Can you see me?" Before now, Miko enjoyed her unassuming high school days, with late-night horror shows serving only as a form of entertainment. But ever since one fateful day, she is the only person aware of the invisible monsters walking freely among humans.

Courageously, Miko makes a bold decision: she will never, under any condition, acknowledge the presence of the horrid specters. However, even though she pretends they do not exist, she can still see how they disturb the people around her, especially her best friend, the energetic and lovely Hana Yurikawa. In order to protect them from the monsters' annoyances, Miko gives it her best to continue her school life and avoid every troublesome crisis—even when they scare her to tears.

Mieruko-chan is a comedic-slice of life series with hints of horror, al though having "creatures" all over the place it is more focused precisely on 3 main characters, the protagonist and friends. Each episode brings the constant struggle the protagonist has to deal with while keeping the ability to perceive such monsters a secret. Some circumstances are wholesome and get very deep in lore regarding certain characters. Many of the interactions and situations are funny, making it less heavy for people who might want to enjoy soft horror, to put it into perspective.


The opening doesn't has heavy visual spoilers which is good if you ... like you enjoy it or are having a bad time skipping. It is more a symbolic visual. The ending on the other hand, does have spoilers from characters or details that will be shown ahead. Not the best songs ever, personally but still catchy and in mood for this kind of series. Comedic-horror based. Make sure to stay after the ending as it always give extra content or context from the episode. It can always give you a laugh or two.

Good animation, acting and storytelling, even if it looks simple, it does it's job. Good plot twists that you might not expect. Overall, a good series to enjoy alone or with company!

Mixed Feelings

Unfortunately, this was pretty disappointing. Personally, I thought the synopsis was very intriguing. Having just finished it a few minutes ago, it wasn't /really/ worth it.

Right off the bat, the excessive fanservice almost put me off immediately, but I decided to continue because I don't like dropping any form of media without seeing it through to the end. It was a little slow to start, but as the episodes continued it did get better. There was... some development of the characters, but they definitely could've used a little more. The pace definitely picked up towards the end of the season (the last four or five ... episodes, specifically), but when a season is only 12 episodes long, there needs to be more excitement in the initial episodes.

Some highlights, though: the ghost designs were great. Just looking at the cover art, I was excited to see what the ghosts would look like, and there was no disappointment in that department. There seemed to be a good variety of ghosts, too; not just one ghost with slightly different variations. None of them were particularly scary, but they looked good. The intro/outro music also went pretty hard; rarely did I skip those.

I think the slow build up, lack of funny moments (IMO), and lack of true horror (at least personally) are all contributing to my low rating. It did have potential, but it didn't really follow through.

First of all, I would like to make it clear that I am 40 years old and perhaps someone younger might have a different opinion.

I didn't like it, I don't recommend it. The anime is very weak, the script is nonsensical and doesn't explain anything that happens in the plot.
Until now, I don't know what led me to watch this anime on Crunchyroll.
I don't know if the story is unique and although I like the genre, I didn't like the anime.
The art style isn't the best I've ever seen, however, it fits the story.
The characters are completely incomplete, full of flaws and they weren't strong ... at all. The main character is the worst of all the characters that appear...
