question:

she ignored the ghosts because she thought they can attack her if she didnt.
and that seems to be true, like we saw with the boy in the park.

buuuuut: can they really? why did the anime never show any consequences of a ghost attack?

i thought to myself all the time: "can the ghosts even hurt humans, even if they tried??" i mean the ghost with the axt in the train literaly hit humans in the head with his axe and nothing happened, untill he hit another ghost.

why did the anime never show if ghosts can do anything? wouldnt it be much more believable if she really saw a ghost hurt a human? or if she would have been hurt by herself?

also@manga readers: is anything in this show ever explained later on? why she can see ghosts at all? why the ghosts are there and so on?

If I remember right it can't directly affect a person unless they are acknowledged which is why she always ignores them. Otherwise they can affect objects or attach themselves to people.

The fact that the 2 shrine miko ghosts would intervene specifically when another ghost seemed to be about to harm her leads me to believe that there would have been consequences if they didn't. Also, the axe guy on the train chopped a ghost that was inside a sickly looking woman. I don't know for sure whether the ghost caused her condition or was attached to her because of it, but I lean towards the former.

Ghosts might not be able to physically attack humans. But what about psychological attacks?
She'll be haunted by these ghosts day in and out and it will make her life even more miserable than getting physically attacked by them.

@IhnalakoKaina yeah, i guess so. But why did they never show it to make it clear? It would be so much more believable if we saw that ghosts actualy can hurt people.

Also why did all other ghosts seem to speak japanese, why did the shrine ghosts only talked jibberish?

Btw did anyone understand what happened in the scene when she returned to the shrine to thank those ghosts?

Ghosts can affect people. In the recent chapters of the manga a girl had a ghost attached to her that made her trip all the time, to the point where she could have died if it didn't get exorcised.

@Yosakusan ok. Thats cool to know. But i still feel like they really should have shown how dangerous these ghosts are so you have an actual reason to fear them, besides them looking gross

As far i can understand, they can.
Different ghost have different way to attack, and the effect of it differed for different people.
The ghosts have varied taste of what kind of person they after.
But one thing universal is they after life force . The stronger your life force, the more the ghosts attack you.
Note here, life force not the same as spiritual power.
Miko have spiritual power to see and talk to astral being, but lack of life force to make them leave or kill them.
The more spiritual power you have the more they can get you physically.

yes they can

It wasn't really shown in the anime, because the anime practically only covered the prologue of the manga, about how Miko is starting to adapt to her new life. But literally right after the end of the anime, the story in the manga immediately progresses to show how dangerous the ghosts can be.
