Ahiru no Sora

Lead protagonist is very similar to Haikyuu's lead. Both small and wants to demonstrate some athletic skills to be acknowledged, and grows from the tough opponents they face. 

Both have short protagonist for a basketball player. Good story arc and character development. Both are good basketball anime. 

Both anime feature a more realistic style of basketball. In Slam Dunk the main character is a delinquent. In Ahiru no Sora, most of the characters are delinquents.  

Another great sports anime with a elemental motif. Sora has the water while these boys have the wind. 

Hinomaruzumou and Ahiru no Sora follow similar story patterns, which is not unusual for sports shounen anime. Hinomaru (Hinomaruzumou) and Sora (Ahiru no Sora) are driven to succeed in a sport where their short height places them at a disadvantage. Their excitement for sumo and basketball influences others to join their newly established teams, despite their lack of skill or experience. You could describe them as a rag tag team of underdogs. Hinomaruzumou has a faster pace given that sumo matches in real life are very quick. Ahiru no Sora is a slower pace series with games lasting multiple episodes.

Both anime revolve around sport, with a main character that is very skilful in the sport they play in. However, the sport clubs of each anime (basketball club - ahiru no sora, soft tennis club - hoshiai no sora) are on the verge of an official discontinuance. Characters in both anime have a deep history, as well as an emotional atmospheres present being present. 

Both MC's just really want to play in their sports and go through some hardships and overcome them for the love of the sport, both also have slight romantic drama and tend to be slightly more slice of life ish, both also are pretty realistic representations of their sports.  

Both have plots that involve players who have lost their passion for the sport, but throughout the story reignite their fires. Both main characters also came to love the sport because of their relationships with their mothers when they were younger, although their current relationships with them are very different between the two shows. 

Similar to Ao Ashi, Sora Kumumatani from Ahiru no Sora wants to compete in the big leagues. Sora has always wanted to play competitive basketball. However, his short height kept him from fulfilling his dream. 

The main characters are both really strong at the beginning, and they both come in a school were the club is very weak. And their arrival at this club will change everything in it. They also are both extremely passionate and loving the sport that they are doing more than everything. They push the other members of the club to be stronger and stronger, and all the club is improving because of them ! With their teammates their also similiraties : somes are very weak, and the main character helps them, and some are very strong, and they are moving forward together ! 

Despite being different genres, both shows are very slow paced and longer in episode length. Uchuu Kyoudai does a much better job at handling its pace though. The main similarity between the shows to note is that both of the brothers in each show have the older brother with an afro and the younger with blonde hair. The older brother also turns out to be a genius in having a wider perception of situations despite his goofy appearance and mannerisms and the younger brother being iconic for his jumping.  

Major S3 and Ahiru no Sora have the same premise: A talented athlete becomes a student in a high school that does not a team for their favourite sport. Gorou and Sora must therefore recruit classmates to establish a sports team and aim for winning nationals. Gorou is an absolute beast at baseball whereas Sora is at a disadvantage because of his height. You know what to expect from this type of underdog story. Can the impossible become reality? Major is an excellent sports franchise and definitely worth the time investment to reach season 3 and beyond. Ahiru no Sora has a slower pace, which can sometimes diminish the excitement of the games.  read more 

Both about sports and the rise to be a champion having height as your handicap. It's pretty cool because the basketball team is full of delinquents and you get to see them grow up and mature into a team that can depend on each other. It also discusses giving up and finding your motivation for doing things while being funny and cool at the same time.  

Both anime is about a particular sport. full of passion and comedy. however, in this anime, the entire team motivates one guy to play for them, unlike Ahiro no sora, where one guy motivated the entire team. The soundtrack is amazing.
