Both feature high-school-age boys helping yokai solve their problems. Both have a fairly light-hearted atmosphere most of the time.

Same type of story, a boy that want to someone help him with a yokai and finished with a due, and help his heroe Without a house like xxxholic, fukigen have a room that move out to call it, but only a person can make other see that

In my opinion these two are sort of under rated/unknown series (especially FnM) compared to the mainstream ones and end up not getting enough attention, even tho they both deserve more! They are different from eachother but yet have some strong common points: - supernatural genre is a very important theme to both, although Noragami tends to have more action while FnM gets to be more dramatic - creatures like gods, ayakashi, youkai, spirits and whatsover are daily routine for both stories (Noragami is specially mainly setted on gods) - both main characters have to deal with exorcisms, particoularly FnM, but while the usual term "exorcism" is treated  read more

These two anime series both involve supernatural beings, which also could be referred as youkai or in the other case as mushishi. Both these series have a very unique atmosphere and pacing and are definitely a great watch.

Both have a human MC who is surrounded by Yokai & ends up being friends with them.

Shows about yokai/mononoke/spirits. Mononoke is more serious and more experimental in art and execution with a drier sense of humour; whereas Fukigen na Mononokean is a simpler series set in high school with a more standard/accessible sense of humour. Mononoke is more or less entirely 'episodic' (comprising of 3 almost completely unrelated arcs), focusing more on the yokai's story, leaving the MC shrouded in mystery; whereas Fukigen na Mononokean definitely has a clear overarching connection between each yokai encounter in the form of the main character's story. Not quite the standard recommendation considering the stylistic gap ( though the colours in the Underworld of Mononokean does resemble the  read more

Supernatural themes, with Japanese yokai and some other western myths as well. It's Shojo feeling and somewhat lighthearted and comedic.

They both have an MC that gets sucked into the dealing with ayakashi/youkai because of a debt. Both MCs work hard at their new job while slowly getting to know the ayakashi/youkai and become friends.

These two shows both deal with the supernatural mixing a modern world with the traditional Japanese style. In both we see a young man that, of necessity, becomes the assistant of a mysterious "doctor" who deals with strange cases using unconventional methods. The young man is then immersed in this new parallel reality where he meets all kinds of oddities.

- Depictions of the Underworld/Hell in a very 'normal' way. - Mononoke/bakemono/yokai/spirits/oni/etc. etc. - MC with resting bitch faces. Hoozuki is a pun-heavy gag comedy set more-or-less completely in hell, whereas Mononokean is a light hearted SoL fantasy set between the human world and the underworld. Both shows feature a large cast of interesting and colourful mythological creatures though.

Both series share similar comedy. Both are revolved around school and youkai. Both involve a separate dimension for the youkai to live in.

There is a main character who has the skills and contacts to help deamons/faries/supernatural creatures. It's episodic in nature, slowly (like pulling teeth) giving you backstory on them. You barely get any backstory, especially in Bai Yao Pu. These shows are mainly similar because of the variety of magical creatures living their own complicated lives while our main characters kind of try to help them.

While not very similar in terms of plot, these two anime are great for people with an interest for (rather cute) youkai and who like worlds in which humans and youkai coexist to a degree. They also share VAs for one of the main characters.

Both feature light hearted comedy. Both present characters in a form of debt. Both are given a unique ability to see/hear things others cant. Just swap cats to yokai, and harem for friendship.

❃ Both anime are about Yokai/spirits ❃ Both protagonists ask for help to the other main character and end up working for them to pay off a debt ❃ Both protagonists meet the other main character at school

Both anime have a powerful supernatural person and a good-natured but a tad stupid companion. The duos solve cases together involving non-human stuff.

Both story-telling are episodic at the start (But for Jigoku, it took about 1.5 season of such episodic story telling before the overarching story starts to build up) Both shows you a glimpse of the other world (Fukigen definitely portrays it much more colourful and fun) Both MC helps their client from their problems that essentially meant involving the other world (Both MC are like agents of this other world) Both MC have an underlying dark past that reveals slowly throughout the show Despite these similarities, I recommend one to the other mainly for their portrayal of the other world. I find both portrayal interesting. Jigoku is a way darker  read more

Both anime have two male main character, one is hard headed and the other a bit naive. They overcome their differences and become great friends; they become like brothers. Both are also short, quick watches but very good animation and story.

This anime has similar supernatural element with Dark Gathering. The MC can see spiritual creatures. However, the difference is that the horror element is not fully present in this anime, unlike Dark Gathering. This anime has more wholesome vibe.

Both are about Yokai/spirits and include very lovable characters!

main character is a teenager with supernatural powers who is able to communicate with japanese gods and spirits. while haruitsuki is a human boy who helps spirits, and yurie is a goddess who helps people of her town, both series deliver essentially the same cozy slice of life vibe and semi-episodic structure.

While Yuragi sou is more on the ecchi and harem genre and Fukigen is more on helping Yokai. both are similar in terms of how the MC deals with his new life with the supernatural.

Both are heartwarming and humorous animes that deal with humans who are able to see and interact youkai/spirits.

Both anime focuses on the relationship between yokais and humans. Although Kamisama Hajimemashita has a more romantic / shoujo genre, both animes show what humans can do for yokais and vice versa.

Both are slice-of-life series featuring supernatural motifs (youkai) with some comedy thrown in. In both cases the main characters are teenagers. In overall, they share the feeling of being flung between two worlds.

MC is similar in both shows He helps out with weird creatures The girl has a similar character to the owner of the mononokean The style is almost the same

- High School setting - Mononoke/yokai/spirits - Teenage cast - Colourful - Playful dialogue Kyoukai no Kanata is more about the story about the people surrounded by youkai which needs exorcising, whereas Mononokean is more about the youkai's story and the people who deal with them.

Both titles are extremely similar - Both have youkai - Both have human(s) who see youkai - Both main characters help youkai - Both have a cute youkai side kick - Both have good animation

If you enjoy silly comedies that focus more on entertaining you and less on keeping a consistent plot, then both these anime fit said criteria well. Both shows focus the interactions of a human with non-human entities, and how, eventually, he befriends them and realizes the existence of a world he was entirely unaware of. The bromances between both the MCs are cute too!

The personalities of Abeno and Ashiya remind me of Tazuki and Sora. Both series also have a cute mascot (Moja & Mii-kun) while featuring other creatures on an episodic basis. Both series are recommended if you're looking for a slow-paced, cute, relaxing series.
report Recommended by Blood-Typemaster
Both are heartwarming slice-of-life shows with a beautiful male cast. They both have an episodic format in which the main characters help someone with their problems. Both have lighthearted and touching atmospheres. The settings for both shows differ a bit. Fukigen na Mononokean has a more fantasy/sci-fi setting because it centers around helping yokai with their problems, while Rokuhoudou Yotsuiro Biyori is set in a cafe where the staff helps people with their problems. If you enjoy one, you'll probably enjoy the other.
