Synopsis

What happens when two people love each other but just aren't meant to be together? Takaki Toono and Akari Shinohara are childhood friends, but circumstances beyond their control tear them apart. They promise to stay in contact, and although the progression of time widens the distance between them, the chain of memories remains ever-present.

Byousoku 5 Centimeter is a romantic drama that focuses on the mundane and harsh reality of long-distance relationships. Stuck in the past and unable to make any new memories, Takaki and Akari cling to the hope of seeing each other again. They live their everyday lives half-heartedly, both hurting themselves and the people around them.

I highly recommend to just watch it sooner.
This movie contains quite a philosophical exploration of relationships and their retrospective view, presenting both the sweet and the bitter aspects that not many movies have.
Every words used in the movie carry significant meaning.
It offers another perspective on life, living, love, and regret, portrayed through Takaki as if he were reflecting myself from a couple of years ago.
The story has stuck in my head for quite a while and i've rewatched it quite a few time, but yeah, it is what it is. A masterpiece.
In essence, "5 Centimeters Per Second" serves as a poignant reminder ...

Mixed Feelings
I'm a big train fan so it was really great to see so many train exteriors and interiors and wide shots. That is however the only reason I like this movie. While Short 1 is very sweet is gets ruined by the information that is learned in short 2 and 3. It feels like the emotions I invested into it just got yanked a bit out and the I'm left in suspense and the their yanked completely out at the end! I was just left like ":/" watching the story progress. The ending montage with the song was actually such a beautiful little artsy moment ...

The movie didn't quite live up to my expectations. Despite receiving many positive reviews and being directed by Makoto Shinkai, it fell short for me. The plot was hard to follow, and I found it difficult to connect with the characters. They felt one-dimensional and lacked depth, making it hard to care about their stories. However, the film was visually stunning, especially considering it was released in 2007. The animation and visual effects were beautiful and impressive for its time. Despite this, it wasn't enough to leave an emotional impact or a lasting impression. Overall, it was a disappointment for me.
