It took me a long time to start One Piece but I’m very glad I did. I was mainly daunted by how long the series was already. I think it was at 200-300 when I first started but I was just finishing Prince of Tennis which seemed like a huge undertaking at the time. XD
If I’m being honest, I barely visit my plan to watch list. There is just too much to catch up on in my watch list to bother. And I’m very visual nowadays, if I don’t like the character design then I generally pass on a series unless highly recommended by a trusted friend.
I have a problem with managing different pastimes which is why I’m bad at finishing my anime. I’ll get into a game or book for a few months and forget what I watched and have to rewatch a lot of previous episodes. I don’t like continuing where my list told me I stopped, I have to go back until I remember what happened. That’s my problem with Attack on Titan. I read further in the manga when the anime took forever to finish production and lost interest in the anime, but now I want to clear it off my list and I keep getting distracted by other shows.
I love post-apocalyptic themes and disaster shows. ❤️
Back in the day I found a fansub subscriber site (it was just a small site) and just watched from its tiny list of animes alphabetically. So I started with .hack// and
worked my way down to bleach, chobits, etc. Good times. XD I heard bleach got a second wind but it’s been soooooo long that I just barely care anymore. If you get around to watching it and like it, let me know. I’ll give it a try then. Begrudgingly.
Well then, maybe I can be that for you. I’m pretty picky and snobby about what and how I watch, and I don’t mind a good debate.
For instance, my partner was talking to someone in a store about One Piece. The dude was boasting that he was in the 900s and we were only in the 700s. But then he said that he skipped over all the fillers and I immediately disregarded him as a poser. XD I’m a stickler for watching every episode. And I hate having too many items on my watch list. I’m trying to trim in to under 100 now.
I love hunter x hunter btw. Probably my all time fave. The anime that got me hooked was Inuyasha. I have a thing for white haired characters. 🥰 personally, I think bleach is overrated, though at the time I loved it too. Well the first half at least. But it hasn’t aged well.
The bulk of that was over a short period of time when I was very new to the community. Maybe about 2-3 years of obsessive watching/reading. Now I just get bursts of content completed when the season seems promising or when I decide to catch up on a series that’s still running. It’s a nostalgic pastime that I share with pretty much all my siblings and friends.
It helps to find a group that likes it as much as you do. Talking about it, debating the merits of this vs that…gives one motivation to watch/try/discover more.
*shrugs*
But don’t stress it. My list was a kind of competitive effort in the beginning. Now it’s just a bookmark to make sure I don’t rewatch too far back in shows like One Piece and Detective Conan, etc. XD
