Synopsis

Painted in red, the word "VON" is all that is left behind after a terrorist attack on a nuclear facility in Japan. The government is shattered by their inability to act, and the police are left frantically searching for ways to crack down the perpetrators. The public are clueless—until, six months later, a strange video makes its way onto the internet. In it, two teenage boys who identify themselves only as "Sphinx" directly challenge the police, threatening to cause destruction and mayhem across Tokyo. Unable to stop the mass panic quickly spreading through the city and desperate for any leads in their investigation, the police struggle to act effectively against these terrorists, with Detective Kenjirou Shibazaki caught in the middle of it all.

Zankyou no Terror tells the story of Nine and Twelve, the two boys behind the masked figures of Sphinx. They should not exist, yet they stand strong in a world of deception and secrets while they make the city fall around them, all in the hopes of burying their own tragic truth.

An exceptionally ambitious original anime that despite a few stumbles, sticks the landing with so few episodes. Terror in Resonance captures the feeling of calm amidst the chaos of life. Many moments give you room to breathe, which when paired with the resonating soundtrack, creates some incredibly captivating scenes. While more time to deepen character development and lengthen scenes would have been appreciated, this detracts little from the experience. There was careful detail placed on approaching mental health, the struggle of those with troubled lives, and the fleeting times when one feels truly alive. This is a unique experience that everyone should give a chance.

Mixed Feelings
What truly separates a good anime from a great one is it’s ability to benefit from anime’s unique elements and ways of storytelling which separate the medium from traditional movies/series.
Terror in Resonance (Zankyō no Teroru) does not do these things, and expectedly, the anime turns into something very bland.
The story is not all that interesting, apart from the ending, which was pretty surprising to say the least.
The characters are also predictable and are there to serve the plot, without any developments really.

Terror in Resonance is just an incredibly average anime. If you are looking for something unique and unpredictable, you should ...

I went in with the mindset that this has 90% chance of starting on a high only to turn too convoluted and ridiculous by the end, as most battle of the wits anime does. It was genuinely unique in the beginning, only to turned into a car crash you can't look away from or in this case, a gas bomb.

Such a letdown since the visual, the voice acting, and the directing was great, but the writing falls into every cliche it could. The story is edgy for edgelord sake, without any weight to make it impactful. It's like the writers watched Fight Club once ...
