Synopsis

Maga—dangerous and powerful creatures resurrected from the corpses of people and animals—are behind mysterious disappearances every day. Humans and the lower-class beastmen who possess both human and animal characteristics reside in the bustling Gokuraku district, where the situation is no different; in fact, it is strangely becoming worse.

In the district lies a peculiar office, used by the Gokurakugai Troubleshooter Agency. Cool-headed leader Tao and intuitive young Alma, its only two members, take on any job that requires them to look into private incidents or even track down missing people—if their clients can afford it, that is. But the two hide a secret: their main objective is to investigate the disturbing cases caused by maga and eradicate every single one of them.

For a one-shot, it's simple and straight to the point. The vast majority of one-shots you come across try to compress so much content into 50 pages it just becomes overwhelming. Out of place action, cringey comedy, paragraph explanations of how a superpower works, etc. But Gokurakugai Sanban-doori no Ken does none of that. Gokurakugai follows the daily lives of Tao and Alma, who run the Gokuraku Troubleshooter's Office, an out-of-the-way business that aims to "solve problems." They appear to be nothing more than a lovable goofball and his serious female counterpart getting into shady business, until the series bares its true supernatural fangs near the end of chapter 1. Though I'm not typically interested in shounen series to begin with, I find that this series has a lot of potential as its stunning art style and impressive balance between "cool" and "funny" work greatly in its favor.

Found the artist on twitter and just got swept up by how good the art is, had to read the manga, didn't disappoint, great character designs, very expressive faces, good panel layout, great environment, amazing art all around, fights aren't good though, there isn't much choreography and it's not particularly engaging, and so far the magic system doesn't seem suited for a shonen series, now that i think about it, there wasn't even a single proper fight yet.

Story is very generic and just bleh, i don't really have a better word for it, bland, boring, shallow, uninspired, even when something interesting shows up, nothing is ...
