Both are dealing with spiritual beings and myths. The main similarity is however in the overall atmosphere. Both shows are simply cute leaving this heartwarming feeling in the viewer. Natsume as a character is quite similar in his behavior and kindness to Jesus and Buddha as their are depicted in Saint Oniisan.

Roujin Z

Both are about the combination of technology and human consciousness and body. Ryoujin Z doesn't go that deep as GITS but it is somehow similar showing how technology that was made to help people can actually be abused and can even evolve on its own into something autonomous but affected by human mind, wishes and desires. Ryoujin Z is not as serious as GITS at the first glance but it actually gives the viewer a strange feeling that there is actually something more behind it, opening some important questions about our society just as GITS.

Both made me think deeply about the reason of human existence and fate of our race, considering the quantum physics and infinity of the universe. In other words...WTF?

Mary to Majo no Hana

A little girl, exploring a new world full of magic and strange creatures (fighting an evil old lady). The main idea is quite similar in both movies but that's not all, the art and animation is incredibly similar. There is this strange feel when the magic effects are somehow organic and just watching them is oddly satisfying.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen
|
Both focus on a deep character development, especially in the way the main character deals with people around him. Is our life just ours? How much are we responsible for the people around us who love us? The main characters in both of these anime deal with such problems, thinking about their lives and deciding whether it's worth even trying to change something or not. Does it matter if I die like this? Am I able to actually do anything good in this state I am right now? If you liked this psychological aspect in NGE, you'll definitely love Rakugo.

Ojiisan no Lamp

Both are somehow dealing with the traditional Japanese culture. Ojiisan no Lamp really reminded me Mr. Miyazaki's style where he focuses on the life around and the thoughts of people and their ideas and visions of the world. Both anime raise up emotions even though there is not anything heartbreaking on the first sight and both evoke this lovely feeling of peace in the viewer's heart.

They are both very unique and take the viewer in the peaceful Japanese countryside. Both deal with the old Japanese culture but in different ways. While Yuujinchou is more supernatural about Natsume dealing with the youkai, Lamp is just about one ordinary man who learned that nothing will last forever and one has to change sometimes (the westernization of Japan). Both share this peaceful feel and the style is somehow similar. The main character is voiced also by the same actor.

The style of Ryuu no Haisha certainly reminds one the old Ghibli movies. It's based on some old Asian legends and myths but somehow modified to the nowadays or recent world and society. While in Laputa we have the flying castle, in Ryuu no Haisha we have the dragon large as a castle. There are people involved seeking it's power for their own purposes and there are also people trying to protect it.

Akatsuki no Yona

The story or main topic is not similar at all (mechas and historical kingdom doesn't come together) but what both of them have in common is the character development! Yona and Shinji are characters that really changed during the anime, both somehow realized what's important and what's not and both threw away their old self that lived a peaceful life with no big worries in order to become someone who can protect the others. And it was a painful way for both of them.

Both are very dark and serious and deal with supernatural things. Man can find many deep thoughts in KnK as well as in Kuroshitsuji. Both anime made me stare into the screen with goosebumps all over my body and just think about it for hours. Ciel and Shiki (main characters of both anime) have the same voice actress by the way.

"Just like Mushishi but with more action!" That's what I thought after a few episodes. Both anime are dealing with a beings from a different world that blends with our reality and affects people. The main character gets rid of a beings called Phantoms that cause problems to people the same way as Mushi do and Ginko takes care of them in Mushishi.

I realized just after watching this fifth film how similar it is to NGE. Not talking about the plot or world but about the deepness. NGE was for a long time my favorite anime because of the deep thoughts, now I guess I have two on the first place.

Both are from the samurai era, dealing with some psychological problems of the main characters. Hakouki has more action but the atmosphere of the old Japan is present in both and it's described in a very similar way. In both of these anime there are some problems about bushido code ideal VS real life and common problems, especially inner ones with the personality of the characters.
