Hello!
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll start with SEL for now.
It's hard to describe why I dislike season 2. It's just nothing like what season 1 was. No good story between characters, no kikuhiko in his prime anymore, the story was boring because the main character is pretty boring, I just don't see how others think it is good or as good as s1
Yo, Thank you, I'm a little bit busy these days, so I'll take a while to watch your recomendation, but it does look funny. Thank you and happy new year!
Hmm, not really. There really is no point where it suddenly "gets good" (idk why othr ppl are saying this, but there is a good arc at around ep52), it's that kind of show where the more u watch, the more it grows on u. I'd say if the viewer doesn't like it within 10-20 eps then they probably won't like it.
I'm not entirely sure myself but AniDB has a comment section as well. However, it works better for them because they have a smaller community. That's why they may be less susceptible to trolling and that their scores tend to vary much more wildly. On the other hand, due to a larger community, the MAL reviews can move the ladder quicker.
A larger community will have a fan base of every anime. Because of this it tends to polarize the scores even more (usually giving a 10 or 1) and that steady supply of fans keeps their favorite/hated niche anime afloat to the top. So some get offended seeing a low score to their personal favorite anime.
Another problem is our perception of average as well. We (myself included) tend to give the average as 7 instead of a 5. It might be because of American grading and we see a 5 as an F instead of average. So we tend to downvote reviews that's lower than an 7 even though the audience's and review's perception are out of sync. It might be better if we saw it as out of 5 stars.
It's sort of ironic that the dude that gave FMA brotherhood a 5 while Roriconfan (thatanimesnob) who usually gives a 5 for every single anime, banned from MAL eventhough he made 800+ reviews, calling everyone a pleb, and has a very small selection of favorites claimed by elitists like himself, gave it a 9. However the dude was biased not in hating it, but liking the other versions far more. So he in seeing it in comparison to the manga and the anime remake. So he's seeing it played out for the third predictable time and didn't like that version.
For me it really seems to be a community problem that's inseparable to the sheer growth spurt of it by the attack on titan/SAO craze. I'm not entirely sure if removing the helpful button would mitigate the trolling problem.
Also, I see what you mean about the comparison between raw numbers and percentages. I reviewed mostly obscure anime (except for Zankyou no Terror) so I'm now at the bottom of the barrel even though my Tetsuwan Birdy: Decode 02 was a 8/9 and Kemonozume a 7/7 and Casshern Sins a 9/13. It sort of sucks that the time spent in describing anime don't get seen. However, the mods say they will fix it. So I'll refrain from making more reviews until they iron the kinks out.
So you're saying it will be a mixed system of the new and most helpful at the top. That might work, but the highest still has that advantage. A new review of SAO can't compete with one that has 1000 helpfuls. That new review might be supplant by another because its a popular and high traffic area.
Man that's a wall of text. Thanks for the .05 dollars.

I only write reviews when I'm sick cuz that's when I have time for it. I'm sorta guessing that's where you got it from??
