Hello! I'm really glad you ended up liking Made In Abyss season 2. I didn't know if I should recommend the series at first because it was on your plan to watch but your comments made me glad I stuck it in anyways! I am interested to know what your thoughts on the movie were.
Besides that, I think you'll enjoy the other two when you get around to them, I hoped '97 wasn't too old when I recommended Berserk but Cowboy Bebop is around the same time so I thought it might be ok. Personally I think it holds up very well, but I also tend to enjoy older anime.

I'd love to recommend more sometime. I'll shoot you a friend request. Also to answer your question I don't know why punpun is so depressing. And it only gets worse unfortunately lol. The author just wanted to bully a sad penguin kid.
