The official X account of Masaoki Shindou's Ruri Dragon (RuriDragon) manga announced on Wednesday that it will resume serialization on March 4.

The manga will run for five chapters in Weekly Shounen Jump before transferring to a bi-weekly release on Shounen Jump+ and the digital edition of Weekly Shounen Jump on April 22.

Shindou originally published the supernatural comedy manga as a one-shot in Jump GIGA in December 2020 before beginning regular serialization in Weekly Shounen Jump in June 2022. The manga went on hiatus after six chapters in July that year due to Shindou's poor health. Shueisha published the first volume in October 2022. VIZ Media and Shueisha's Manga Plus platform publishes the chapters in English simultaneously.

Ruri Dragon has a cumulative 200,000 copies in circulation. The manga ranked ninth in the 2024 Kono Manga ga Sugoi!'s Male Readers category.

Synopsis
Ruri Aoki is just another average high school student—until she wakes one morning to discover horns growing out of her head. Confused and unimpressed by the change, she shows them to her mother. However, her mother remains unfazed and reveals a shocking truth: Ruri is half-dragon!

Although Ruri has no idea what to make of this sudden development, she decides to go to school like normal, hoping that another ordinary day awaits her. But it does not take long before her best friend, classmates, and homeroom teacher all notice something amiss. Swarmed by people requesting to look at, feel, and take selfies with her horns, Ruri realizes being a half-dragon is going to be much more chaotic than she expected. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

@RobertBobert Stop taking baits from morons.

I think I also heard about a controversy surrounding this manga, becoming one of reasons of its early hiatus. I never tracked much info about Ruri Dragon manga, but I thought and also heard it got axed due to too underwhelming sales. Now we know that the real reason was the mangaka's poor health, but still, I'm surprised that there were so much rumors floating around a manga with only several chapters released, going on a hiatus several months after its regular serialization's premiere. Bizarre hype is another thing, though not something that much uncommon among anime and manga fans.

@Adnash You heard wrong. It was only due to health.

@Adnash I don't doubt that the mangaka took a break due to health problems. But such huge hype and speculation around the manga just at the time of the release of one volume of six chapters really makes the situation unusual. I always feel like I'm confusing something and the manga has a web or doujin version with enough chapters to cause such a reaction. But there is only one volume and 6 chapters.

@bastek66 Dude, why are you asking me? I haven't read the manga, I'm just talking about what I've heard.

It's funny how these days, for some people, a manga can reach the cult status masterpiece just after several chapters released before 2 years long break. ;p

Nice to see this series back. I read the one-shot, but it wasn't my cup of tea, so I didn't bother to even check out the main series (especially after hearing about it going on a hiatus so early on). I thought it was axed, but nope, apparently it was the mangaka taking a break due to health problems.

@RobertBobert Only 6 chapters what the fuck do you expect to have with this little of pages?

Feb 22, 5:25 PM by bastek66

@bastek66 I don't have the details and I don't know if this was actually the reason, but I heard that some people were upset that the author didn't develop it further as CGDCT, but introduced a more diverse cast. But I haven't read it myself and can't really say anything.

@EcchiGodMamster What even could be changed in slice of life comedy?

Feb 22, 1:12 PM by bastek66

@bastek66

idfk, im just telling you what i heard and thats that there were some story changes that turned people off

if its not true, then good

Feb 22, 12:41 PM by EcchiGodMamster

@EcchiGodMamster It only went on hiatus due to bad health. What changes it could even have with 6 chapters? It released only one volume so it can't be called best selling manga

Feb 22, 12:29 PM by bastek66

@bastek66

i heard twice that the manga went through some creative chanages which killed peoples interest in it

like, it was one of the best selling manga, then that happened and people lost interest

editors, publishers, w/e

Woah i almost gave up

Feb 21, 8:09 PM by mshfqtny

@malvarez1 Actually, I'm interested too, because we only have one volume, but you're already getting so much hype, as if it's a multi-year cult work.

Feb 21, 3:22 PM by RobertBobert

@MegamiRem nah it will just be published digitally, including on jump+. they made sure to say that its going biweekly on both wsj digital version (different from jump+) and on jump+

Feb 21, 2:56 PM by brzzcode

@EcchiGodMamster you are definitely thinking of something else because that never happened here.

Feb 21, 2:52 PM by DatRandomDude

@EcchiGodMamster Where did you get this bullshit?

Feb 21, 1:28 PM by bastek66

@IzayoiSk I haven't read it, but apparently it's just really fun and shows a lot of potential.

I wouldn't be surprised if HxH eventually moves to Jump +

Feb 21, 10:46 AM by malvarez1

Why is this thing so hyped again?

Feb 21, 9:21 AM by IzayoiSk

What even happened to the mangaka? I can understand someone has health issues but to the point of not being able to put out anything for 2 years? Sounds like there as another reason they swept under the rug. Also, this is a good news. I was quite sad to see this one on hiatus.
