Both female leads and male leads are quiet and a bit shy. They're sweet to each other and complement each other well. Both are set in a high school environment. They have mature personalities but there's still lots of fluff.

These manga both feature an older sibling who gets a kick out of trolling their younger sibling for their love problems. Occasionally the older sibling might even be of some help, but only if it also amuses them.

Ani Tomo's Onii (Nanase Yukihiro) is very similar to Shuunin (Kurosawa) in Dame na Watashi ni Koishite Kudasai. They are both very strict, mischievous yet caring. Both manga are very well written, enjoyable and funny.

Both are romcoms in which two brother and sister pairs fall in love with each other. Two siblings, one male one female, meet and fall for(?) their sibling's friend. In each story, there is a blonde(or light haired girl)who is into otaku-like activities but doesn't want anyone knowing. They also both also over obsess(being otakus). Though the ages are switched. In which Brothers the sister pairs are older and in Ani Tomo, the sister pairs are younger. There is a sadist in both stories who don't or can't confess their feelings.

Both families have their own way of doing things which freaks out the love interest. Within the romantic plot, both are slow, sweet, and not only circled around the main couple but also pulls in elements of other love stories, school life, and relationships with friends. Ani Tomo is more on the 'innocent high school first love' side of things whereas Horimiya focuses on the more realistic(I think) 'friends before lovers' side/type of a relationship.
