Passionate and hardworking main characters. Women are well written here.  

Otoyomegatari and other mangas from Mori Kaoru might not be from the same period or place as Arte but they share with it the will to make us discover other historical cultures, their habits and customs in an everyday fashion. 

The settings are both Italy-inspired.. while Aria's setting is Neo-Venezia which is based on old-time Venice, Arte's setting is actually old-time, 16th century Florence/Firenze. Both series also feature a young girl who is working hard to work as a certain profession, although in Aria the undine job is normally for women, while Arte depicts reactions brought by the heresy that is a girl wanting to be an artist. While Aria is basically a relaxed and relaxing manga, Arte sometimes depicts real-life problems in society. Both have awesome art. 

Are you perhaps tired of seeing weak girls who are basically living sex dolls in your mangas? Both of these mangas feature strong women that fight against the rules of society. 

Both main characters want to perform their passions in a job that is mainly seen for the gender opposite to their own. You can see both of them grow, learning from mistakes and shortcomings. 

Mangas about woman who are passioned about art. They even teach you nice things about life. 

Both stories are historical pieces, where the women are trying to shatter the social norms of their respective eras. Detailed artwork is present in both of these. 

Both are fantastic female empowering mangas with a strong female lead. Sabaku no Harem has more of a love overtone than Arte but overall they are very much a like in style. Both also have beautiful and detailed art (as an aside). 

Both have a historical scenario where the protagonist doesn't want to follow what is expected from their social status, leading them to the world outside their homes. As they venture outside, they face many heartwarming situations that lets them befriend many people. As the history goes Gisèle Alain has more of a slice of life feeling than Arte. 

(Semi) historical setting - check. Characters representing the whole social strata - check. Various socio-politico-economic issues woven into the story - check. And mainly, the main character is a girl determined to make her own way in life.  

Historical manga where the protagonist travels in order to find indirectly what they want from their lifes. In both cases the female protagonist has a bright personality that leads them to befriending a lot of people. 

Both have strong, adventurous female leads. Both have beautiful art styles unique to the historical setting of each story (Arte = Renaissance Italy, Song of the Long March = Imperial China). Song of the Long March revolves around war & politics, whilst Arte is about culture & art.  

Both historical fiction (Arte is set in Renaissance Italy; Kusuriya is set in Imperial China), both have strong, likeable female leads. Both feature subtle, almost-not-there romances. 

Both are about art and paintings, both girls fall in love with the painter. However Arte has a historical setting whereas The Sleeping Residents of Birdcage Manortakes place in the modern world.
