I think Kitchen Princess is a great read for those who enjoy "older" mangas. Going in, you'll know to expect a recognizable art style (the heroine has a big heart and big eyes, haha) and a level of drama that was popular with many shoujo mangas during the 90's and early 2000's. I personally love this type of melodramatic story that is full of plot twists and ridiculous characters, as it often makes me laugh from the absurdity.

I also think the overall premise is fun, as the manga includes lots of cute food themes and elements that keeps the story lighthearted even amongst some wild ... drama and more mature topics. If you enjoy cheesy stories, you may enjoy Kitchen Princess a lot. Najika wants to follow in her parent's footsteps, and is very determined to do so—no matter the obstacle. She has a very kind personality, and is determined to meet the "Flan Prince" from her childhood. It all sounds so cheesy, but I love that sort of thing, haha!

Overall, if you are looking for a much more serious or deep story, this one might not be the best pick. I think Kitchen Princess has a very entertaining and occasionally heartwarming plot, but the drama is so ridiculous you can't really get absorbed into what's happening. However, it can be a really enjoyable read if you go in knowing what to expect!

I really like this manga. The premise is simple enough. Najika, the main character, was depressed due to the death of her parents, when she was a kid. A boy gives her some flan to cheer her up, which works! She calls him her Flan Prince, and that kickstarts her passion for cooking, baking specifically. She hones her craft to get into a prestigious cooking academy, in order to meet her Flan Prince.

I will say that the plot is simple enough, and this manga is full of cliches. You have the parent who hates the love interest of their ... kid, you have the love triangle, you have girls bullying the main character over a guy, etc. I'd say the strength of this manga is similar to the strength of Black Clover, in that how it approaches the cliches is refreshing. I also like how a crush isn't the end all and be all. No one is pining over someone forever and whining over a rejection. Similar to real life, people move on, and accept that their crush doesn't return their feelings. I think that's a great message to have!

Even if the manga is rather cute and has a simple premise, it doesn't shy away from serious topics. Eating disorders, death, and suicide are topics that appear in this manga, and it takes them serious. That's actually what bumps this from a 6/10 to an 8/10.

It is a nice and cute manga about food and romance. The story is pretty good and the charcters are well defined.
HOWEVER the art just sucks. At the end of the manga I had to force myself to continue reading because it was just too painful to see. These enormous eyes and the mouth are just terribly drawn and the character's expressions are always the same, I seriously wonder whether the author just copy-pasted it. This was just so dreadful that it dragged the enjoyment down.
The romance part was fairly good tough, a lot of things happened you didn't expect to happen.
Also something else: There ... were far too many characters who changed from bad to good (I think it were like 5?) which were super unfitting and that really annoyed me.
Overall: I don't advice this manga to anyone who gives just the slightest amount of attention to the art when reading a manga.
