First authorial work by Masasumi Kakizaki.
In this first work, Kakizaki made a very well-crafted horror story in a single volume.
The story tells about a husband who lost his son due to his and his wife's mistake, where the husband accuses the wife and the wife accuses the husband. But it's both of their faults.
The work implies that both were not bad people, but due to the loss of the child they had personality changes, where the wife starts to be a terrible person. After that, there's a revenge plan to kill his wife and start over, and then there's the horror plot, where they end ... up in a cave with a monster after attacking his wife.
The story is well constructed with good characters, as it is a single volume, you end up not having the opportunity to get involved on the same level as other works by the author, such as Yomotsuhegui for example.
I loved the manga, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Nessa primeira obra, Kakizaki fez uma história de terror muito bem elaborada em um único volume.
A história conta sobre um marido que perdeu seu filho por um erro dele e da esposa, onde o marido acusa a esposa e a esposa acusa o marido. Mas a culpa é dos dois.
A obra deixa subentendido que ambos não eram má pessoas, mas por conta da perda da criança tiveram mudanças de personalidade, onde a esposa começa a ser uma péssima pessoa. Após isso tem um plano de vingança para matar a sua esposa e recomeçar, e ai tem a trama de terror, onde eles vão se meter em uma caverna com um monstro após atacar sua esposa.
A história é bem construída com bons personagens, por ser volume único, acaba você não tendo a oportunidade de se apegar no mesmo nível de outras obras do autor, como Yomotsuhegui por exemplo.
Amei o mangá, recomendo MUITO.

FEW HIGH'S TOO MANY LOWSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

It's a short story so not too much expectations are set on a there being a good story but I mean common the mangaka could have given the story a little more love especially when the story takes centre stage. Saying allat we are meant to be hooked in by the *** story instead the expansive heavily detailed panels, I mean some of these panels are just pure masterpieces ... Butttttttt the problem is that there is simply not enough of them because the mangaka keeps trying to focus on this **** story that no one really cares about which
drags ... down the whole project.

Now I feel like i'm being too negative because credit where credit is due the horror atmosphere is on full display, I genuinely felt anxious for the MC and tension was established throughout the story.

So yes there are amazing panels and a good horror setting but the story is straight cheeks and the managka keeps focusing on the weakness of the manga instead of pushing us to see the strengths and for a short story you are simply setting it up to be a disaster. Overall Imma say I got mixed feelings because this manga bares some of my fav panels for sure but the flaws are evident.

Apologies if this review is all-over-the-place, since that's how my thoughts are on this short Manga. Reading Hideout is not unlike going to a fancy Italian restaurant and only ordering breadsticks. Sure, the breadsticks are great by-themselves, but there's nothing that differentiates them from any other restaurant. On top of that, you leave on an empty stomach. This sums up Hideout. Neither thought-provoking, nor shocking enough to afford being memorable.

The subpar plot lacks any sense of originality or intrigue to support the meticulously drawn panels. In fact, I'll sum it up for you: A man hates his wife, lures her into a mysterious ... cave, and attempts to kill her. He succeeds, but fails, but then doesn't? He's also a terrible dad, and him being "humanized," only justifies why the wife hates him (he didn't supervise his child, and he walked off their building, while he was working). How bad of a father do you have to be, in order for you to be this negligent. Anyway, man decides to stay in cave, writes a letter which somehow makes it to the outside of the cave (despite there being no exit to the cave), in order to attract fellow psychopathic husbands (at least that's what the author leads me to believe).

Any arguments that it's deep, due to it's usage of symbolism, is an outright joke. 'Oh, the monster child is an allegory of his own child, and the mother is symbolic of his own wife, and this displays how he's abandoning them again even in hell.' Do you think I was born yesterday? C'mon now. This is not deep. Throwing metaphors and symbolism so unsubtly in your face is not deep. Even a child could figure this out.
