Frequently they say to me, "I don't like shoujo"—as if an entire demographic of manga magazines that have been publishing for decades are only capable of writing one type of story. Romance manga (some manhua/manhwa) set in historical settings. Some are solely focused on the romance while others have romance as a sub-genre. This stack contains series with a female lead who is could be considered a genius—most have high intellect, but she could have a specific skill as well. All series have a romantic elements and can be lighthearted/silly at times. Check these out if you’re looking for feel-good series with smart and talented women! Shoujo manga tends to have a reputation for telling the same kind of stories over and over - romances, magical girls, cute animals, fujobait involving a cast of hot guys (often flocking around a hapless female lead), and slice-of-life series starring characters doing mundane things. (Mainly) Shoujo manga featuring characters who are royalty or filthy rich Of course, this list is subjective, but these are mangas that really stood out to me due to refreshing story elements, subject matter, or unique characters. I'm not asking for reccomendations. Must Have: mangas that i don't feel uncomfortable reading :) Must Haves: A revenge. A vengeance. A vendetta. A retribution... All of these are Shoujo, there isn’t a single shounen piece in here. These can vary from fantasy Shoujo to action Shoujo. They are not all romantic in nature. None of these are one-shots either, though some are more short than others. Please enjoy these and I hope you find some interesting things in here. I’ve read all of these and loved them so I’d be honored if you’d do the same. A collection of romantic tales set in periods of imperial dynasty (ie. Joseon Korea / Fedual Japan / Middle East Bronze-Iron Age). Where emperor’s ruled the land & power struggles for the crown were prominent. Progress Storyline more focus Main Protagonist Do not interpret this list as "reccomendations for series as good as good as Berserk," because you won't get that! But if you like knights, swords and castles and occasionally magic and appreciate those things on an aesthethic level, then you'll find things to enjoy. |
