Both stories are thrillers that are a race against time as the protagonist has to remember events and people from his childhood to protect himself and those he cares about. They definitely have the same kind of series-long tension that keeps you reading late into the night.

The protagonist is an adult man that gets dragged into a grand scale machinations and faces off the antagonist in psychological warfare.

In both mangas the protagonist is a grown man who is trying to solve a crime... to find a certain man who, in a way, ruined his life. And in both cases the answer is buried deep in they're memory's. The art is similar too(or so I remember)

The twisted atmosphere and the protagonists questioning their identities and trying to recall their pasts connect these two manga series together.

Old Boy may not contain any sci-fi elements, but it shares many themes with Akira, not the least of which is the treatement of the masses by those most powerful in society. What's more, Minegishi's art is very reminiscent of Otomo's, not to mention the tones of both stories, aligned in their contemplation of humanity and violence.

Oldboy and Ichi the Killer are similar in the sense that the majority of the plot revolves around the main character having their actions manipulated by somebody else. If you enjoyed the meticulous mindf*ckery from one of these series, I'm sure that you will find entertainment in the other. Ichi the Killer is undoubtedly more violent and action-packed, whereas Oldboy is more brooding and focuses on the psychology of the characters. Both titles have also been adapted into successful and well-known live-action feature films.

These two manga are similar because they both seek to decipher a mystery. Moreover, the main characters of different stories have a female companion who follows them throughout the story, and they are emotionally attached, but behind this attachment lies manipulation. I let you discover the rest.

— Another manga that falls under the Film noir genre — Similar realistic art style — Slow paced — Visual storytelling with few dialogues — Deep psychological characterizations — Mature themes

The protagonist gets dragged into a conspiracy and has to find out who is behind it and why, putting together pieces of puzzles. The arstyle is also similar, even though drawn by different authors.

Revenge stories about a wronged protagonist seeking vengeance against those who have done them wrong. Old Boy has the added twist of having to find out the reasoning behind the crimes committed against him while interacting with the antagonist throughout the series whereas Lady Snowblood is a comparatively straightforward search for the antagonists with the backstory being gradually revealed, but they have the same kind of feel at a number of points throughout the series. Aside from that they both deal with a kind of protagonist-centred grey morality that makes things interesting.

In both of these stories, a character gets locked up in a small space for a very long period of time by the antagonist.

Protagonist suddenly finds himself at center of conspiracy, his life flipping 180 degrees, not knowing who to trust and collecting hints to try to arrive at solution of the mystery of what and why is happening.
