The main characters are slaves, partially because of their parents. They are being thrown around and (ab)used by their masters, who've unmistakably got enough power and authority to be scared of. *The tragedy is strong!

Even though the main plot and setting is completely different, the psychological (manipulative) part by a parent or parentlike figure is deeply embedded into multiple characters in Kentou Ankokuden Cestvs.

Slavery: enslaved people are being put in a fight against other people (also enslaved or not). Most of the other slaves shown break down at the sight of the cruelty, though the MC perseveres no matter how harsh the current situation is. <>Kentou Ankokuden Cestvs is Historical but there are less horror scenes. Dorei Yuugi is a lot more rough to wrestle through.

Two manga with the Roman Emperor Nero as an important character, based on the information that is preserved from the ancient Roman times. They feature the relation between Nero and his scheming mother Agrippina, and his reign of the Roman Empire, in the 1st century AD. <>Waga Na wa Nero is focused on Nero (main character), Kentou Ankokuden Cestvs has Nero as a supporting character.

Boxing in a 1v1 setting, with the MC having a relatively small physique, though swift and strong punches. *The energy given off in fights is almost the same. <> Cruelty of course is much worse for slaves than in controlled matches nowadays.

Both historical manga involving children with talent for fighting in ancient Europe. They are surrounded by misery and extreme violence in a world were slavery, political conspiracy, greed and wars are prevalent. Unfortunatly the roman boxer Cestvs is really underexposed so if you enjoyed Vinland saga, think about giving Cestvs a chance one of these days..

Both series are really underrated and if by chance one of you found any of these brilliant unpopular series, you should give the other series a chance - both has a similar setting (rome) and fights in a colosseum - the cast are filled with insane and inhumane characters
