Tower Dungeon is the first dark fantasy work of Nihei, Tsutomu yet he manages to come off as a veteran to the field. The mix of his sci-fi monster design gives the series a unique vibe that isn't really found too often within the genre. Small scale environments are able to feel like expansive fleshed out worlds with his incredible use of architecture in his backgrounds, and the dungeon in the series is given strict dimensions yet Nihei manages to portray it with a feeling of scale on the same level as the unending fortress of Blame!.

Nihei does a great job of giving out ... information through the world building which is just enough to flesh out the world but also provide just as many questions as he gives answers so that you are left wanting more. Tower Dungeon showcases a world where things are happening rather than just an mc's story as the singular viewpoint, showcasing several different perspectives and events that the story flows through. The characters are also great with Nihei managing to make the most out of his panels and give solid grasps of people's character within different parties without much dialogue being spoken at all.

This series is a breath of fresh air to fantasy series and will likely cement its name up there with some of the greats when it is finished. If you are looking for a fantasy series with great worldbuilding, fun characters, and incredible art that gives depth to the world, then give this series a read.

Tower Dungeon is as basic a dark fantasy manga can get, yet it breathes such a refreshing take on the genre. I am by no means a fantasy connoisseur but this has quickly become one of my favorite.

The standout quality for me was easily the world building and art. The grand scale of the architecture mixed with the grizzly creatures gives a sense of unease that I felt goes so well with this story. Tsutomu Nihei is an amazingly talented artist and his art really added to emersion in the Manga.

The story and characters are super standard. It’s pretty much Shrek tbh. But that doesn’t ... take away from the manga, in fact I think it adds to it. The simplicity of the story allows it to get right to the “good stuff” from the get go. Some people might find this as a negative but I thought it worked well. If I had one complaint it would be the slightly awkward fan service. It feels very out of place in a manga like this.

Overall I really enjoy reading this and will definitely continue to follow the series as more chapters come out.

Great. The story seems at first to have a basic ideia behind it, a Dungeon showed up and a wizard captured a princess and took her to the highest level of it, now a group of knights try to rescue her by fighting monsters on different floors.

But the great difference in this one is the world itself, the author take this overused premise but give it a new take, with a world that feel soo different from everything, dare to say its one of the best fantasy mangas from the modern era, especially regarding the worldbuilding.

The artstyle is amazing, it's very different from your generic ... shonen, and give a unique feel to the world, especially because the use of heavy use of black and white contrast and the speechless scenes that convey some kind of emptiness to the world, then top it with the mindblowing creativity Nihei have for creature design and u really start to want to read more.

It's good to still see this kind of breath of fresh air in a time full of generic and lackluster mangas
