Beat & Motion is a breath of originality and inspiration in the midst of tried and tested formulas.
The main character of Fujita Naoki's manga is Tatsuhiko. We follow the protagonist through his rather bleak daily life as he deals with the frustrations of his existence. The initial turning point in the manga that starts the plot is his encounter with a girl at a social event.
Beat & Motion's great asset is the real and nuanced way it deals with life's themes. Here we have a protagonist who is a young adult dealing with bad choices, a complicated life and dreams. I won't spoil anything, but

Whenever I review a story, I directly try to find reasons to love or hate the story, but this has left me perplexed — this does absolutely nothing detrimentally wrong, but it doesn’t do any of the later arcs in a fascinating way, rather, everything becomes predictable and drawn-out for the sake of filling out chapters. Let me be clear: The introduction of the this manga was well done, and it has a rather unique setup of events/backstory for the plot and characters; however, this was also done in a “convenien, too convenient way,” which foreshadows this manga’s storyline. To be blunt, the storyline/plot is all ... Feb 2, 2025
Another amazing manga ended. I couldn't believe how satisfying this manga is. But first of all, I want to thank MangaPlus for bringing this masterpiece into the app, I couldn't ask for more than this treatment.
Story. Straight, point blank. Both MCs have dreams and they actually achieve them. Not only that, they ended up together very fast unlike a certain series that took up hundreds of chapters to confess and they still haven't gone out together. Even tho, the ending could be a little better, I would say overall the author did a great job of conveying the story straight and didn't take an off-rail ... Nov 11, 2024
Now that more than two chapters have been released from my initial review, more than enough time has passed to make a fuller evaluation of for Beat & Motion. While promising from its start, the series has continued its trajectory of being a stand-out series worth reading.
The author continues to have a remarkable grasp of using visual metaphor to capture the up-and-down experiences of the characters. Additionally, while the over-arcing narrative has been mostly linear in terms of success for the main characters, there's a potent sense of anxiety in their day-to-day pursuit of those goals that aims to draw the reader into the ... Despite the character design making them look rather young even as adults, I think we get to see some of the more proper adult characters in the shonen jump space, though they do suffer from being a lil delulu, childish, and struggling (that's a neutral statement, many artists struggle). We have a musician wishing to make it big despite having a former superstar musician mom, she's trying to escape the nepobaby curse, which, good on you, girliepop. Then we have an artist who aims to make his animations into films at some point, but he always had a love for the musician's music so he

Sorry but this series is just bad. Beat & Motion is something I came into after looking for more manga about artists after finishing and loving Time Paradox Ghost Writer, and the first chapter starts extremely promising, but it soon shows itself to just be nothing but a boring romcom with no identity.
Our MC had an interesting story at the start - he was a kid who always dreamed of directing anime, and was constantly drawing, but eventually phased that out to start a rock band that, no matter the many years he and his friends poured into it, never caught up - but the ... |
