What I expected by the cover and the name: Avarage Hunter/Dungeon story some kind of traveling here and there.
What I got: Unique underworld ecosystem , base building, military tactic, cute unhinged characters and brutal epic large scale battles.
Story: 9/10 Odyssey is very fitting name to this manga the MC path that leads to greatest depth of the abyss while he found an empty dungeon or the empty dungeon found him? Start to establish himself in the deth of 9th floor and slowly building up himself to top dog on his floor.

A very unique take on the power fantasy genre, which you don't see a lot of in the manhwa scene. Like most manhwa of the same genre, the protagonist gets progressively stronger over time, but in this one it's because his territory gets bigger and his forces get stronger, not because of some video game level up system. The fights aren't decided by who has more brute force but by who is the better strategist. Combine this fact with the interesting setting, the charming art style, the unique characters, and some surprisingly funny moments, and you get something that is very refreshing to consume. A bingeable manhua with the right mix of edge and goofiness.
At first the story was a bit edgy with how they handled the main character and the dungeon upgrading and constant fear of death, but as the story progresses it shows more and more heartwarming, goofy and genuinely funny scenes. Interaction between the side characters are actually interesting as they all have unique and memorable personalities. The art style fits the tone and vibes of the manhua really well, switching from really well drawn and serious fight scenes to just pure meme fuel reactions from the loveable cast of characters. Dungeon Odyssey is one of the best manga releasing. The art is gorgeous and suits the tone switching from cute chibi for the less intense comedic moments and for when things get serious and there's great action the artist kick it up to 10 and go all out to get you fully into those fights and pivotal moments throughout.
(I personally have gone back multiple times to chapters I've already read just to go look at the art because when I read through I don't take the time to properly admire the work as it flows so well I just keep scrolling) Though I understand that ...

Do me a favor and read this. For those who have not read past the first chapter, Dungeon Odyssey is a pretty unique story, in which Jinwoo takes control of his own dungeon / labyrinth which he must strengthen and fight other dungeons / labyrinths and cooperate with others. This covers most of the story. Dungeon Odyssey is an incredibly complex story compared to what I have read over the past 2 years. Not bad. Pretty solid tbh. It has an interesting idea about how the character develops that is similar to Solo Leveling, which is a style I really like. It has a cool main character, but the side characters are forgettable. The leveling system for the character and for the labyrinth is the highlight of the series as it is really cool to see his kingdom progress. It has good art as well and pretty solid pacing.
Overall, not horrible but it isnt a masterpiece or anything. It does have good potential though and I would give it a shot if you want an easy read. |
