Tsuyoshi is not what it promises to be. It promises to be seinen; instead it's a standard shonen battle manga. It promises to be about a wimpy-looking strong man; instead it's about a revolving cast of martial artists. It promises for Tsuyoshi to be the main character… instead, he's not.
❧ What kind of story is it really?
Though filed under “seinen”, the seinen elements primarily amount to window dressing. Occasional cleavage; characters who take sexual pleasure in being beaten; innumerable strikes to the family jewels. There are also some truly uncomfortable Sniper Elite-style internal views of bones being crushed or organs being damaged. But those are

It's a good manga. It definitely reminds me of One Punch Man. We got Tsuyoshi, who is super strong in martial art, and everyone who asks to fight him will be defeated. He is the MC, but the manga also focuses on one more character. He's more like Genos in OPM. He wants the MC to make him his disciple and want to know his secret of how he became so strong or what training he went through...that kind of stuff. So, basically, the MC is overpowered (which is a huge plus). If you want to know if there is a story, I'm not sure

TL;DR If you enjoy the zany pendulum swing between serious battle manga and absurdist self referential parody you will love this manga. Its like the Gintama of hyper masculine martial arts manga like Baki or Tough.
First off, I will say I completely understand why people would be frustrated with this manga. If you go in expecting the power fantasy of an unassuming guy beating up people way above his presumed level you get that in spades...in the beginning. The story of Tsuyoshi follows Kawabata Tsuyoshi, who is challenged day to day by different fighters, martial artists, delinquents and all sorts of people wishing to ambitiously test their strength, against a man who has never been beaten, Kawabata himself.
Its starting point introduces two very important characters, Hoshizaki and Teru, best friends and technically-former martial arts rivals. Teru, having been beaten by Kawabata, has lost all will to fight ever again, and Hoshizaki upon hearing this, resolves to challenge Kawabata himself, and loses. Wanting to understand Kawabata's strength himself, Hoshizaki resolves to get closer to him. Eventually, this resolves into friendship, and along the way ... Sep 11, 2023
If you like one punch man, or any strong guy without knowing why manga. you will have a good 70/30 chance of liking this manga.
Ok. 46 chapters in. I can safely say this is very average overall. Started great, but the story is now boring with 3-6 pages of back stories for every main organisation's fighter shoved in the middle of a 2 page fight. Art is very good. Pacing is fast and enjoyable for the most part. Starts with a great premise of a super strong MC in normal day japan that fights a variety of different people who wield different martial arts. Compared to ... |
