I am deeply surprised with Hanazono-san Twins. Based on the cover, tags, and premise, I had a relatively solid idea of what I was getting into. Everything this manga is is built on well-worn clichés that have plagued romance manga for decades. It is, after all, a classic love triangle with two girls with different personalities and looks perusing a mutual childhood friend. Starting out, the artwork is really solid. The author and artist Kitajima manages to nail some strong expressions with really decent character designs. It also gets points for being a love story about a big breasted gyaru and having little to no ecchi aside from a couple bathing scenes. In general the artwork sells the experience, especially in the recent chapters 24 and 25 which have a few great visual gags.

Hanazono Twins does something I never thought possible, making a wimpy virgin high schooler actually entertaining as a love interest. I’m not going to argue that he is all that fantastically written, after all I still don’t remember his name, but I think he has legitimate chemistry with both of the girls. Some of the bits where he interacts with the gyaru are especially charming, specifically when the adorkable bits die down and they can freely interact. In addition, I think this guy strikes a decent balance of wimpy and charismatic. A lot of series in this genre tend to make the main guy too unpopular and scummy. This makes the moments where the protagonist is suddenly super thoughtful and charismatic feel completely out of nowhere. Our protagonist in this manga manages to maintain a good enough balance that I find it relatively believable that the twins would like him, even if the gyaru’s reasoning is as cliché as it comes. Thankfully, a decent bit of the other characters are also likeable. The twins are kind of generic, but they work decently enough. The gyaru’s friends are all pretty entertaining, especially the one with short dark hair.

I think another thing that makes the love triangle work is the starting position the characters are all in. It is relatively by the books with one of the sisters being in a better position to grow than the other, while the other sister is the specific love interest that the protagonist initially wants. However, it is executed in a very specific way that makes the scales feel much more interesting. This is partially because our protagonist does not feel nearly as wishy-washy as other characters from other manga do in his position.

My only major complaint about this manga is in its side plots. I can feel my engagement drop the moment the story focuses on some random new side character for a few chapters. These stories aren’t necessarily bad, but they don’t feel entirely relevant and detract from the momentum of the manga. This isn’t a major complaint, but it is something worth voicing.

I deeply hope this manga is not axed. If it is given enough time I can see it being a really good complete package once it is done. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys standard romance manga and would like to read another. This manga has a lot of potential and is a surprisingly entertaining read.

Ok so when I started reading this manga, I didn't really expect too much from the author, and was only intending to get my monthly fill of harem rom-com. However, to give credit where it's due, this manga at least gives a half-decent ending (Even though I found it abrupt), and the final choice actually makes sense.

This manga isn't really a harem though, as there are only 2 love interests, and most of the scenes are with only one of them. The characters and art is decently cute, though nothing to write home about. I did feel a that the story was a little ... too stretched needlessly, and it took me a while to actually read the whole manga since I kept taking breaks.

One thing I did like was that almost everyone in this manga (even the side characters) had their own motivations and goals in life, and didn't merely exist to continue the story. While the MC was generic and lame as usual, the FMCs actually had a life goals besides seducing MC (Even though that was ONE of their goals). I was satisfied after reading this manga, and there's nothing that made me angry or disappointed (which is an achievement for many rom-coms).

This manga is exactly what you expect it to be, an average HS rom-com. So in conclusion, this is a decent manga for it's genre, and if you prefer High School rom-coms then this is surely worth a try.

I really liked it, i highly recommend it, it is really wholesome, the art is honestly good, pretty well made and enjoyable, i had a really good time reading most of the chapters, and i really think that is sorta underrated, the story could be a little repetitive or basic, but in my opinion it is a really good simple and good formula that works what make the story better are the characters and how they interact with each other, it also has a really good cast of secondary characters, im gonna keep reading it until the end, i really wanna see what happens with ... this manga.

So, I've seen the advertisement for this manga on MAL by chance - as many manga to be bought are advertised here randomly. I read the first chapter, which felt a bit rushed, but what would you expect: it needs to set up the premise of the whole series and what to expect of it. What should I say? I spent the last 7 hours to read all 7 volumes and now I feel kind of empty.

Let me start by saying: yes, the setting is kind of a cliche. The MC is by no means anything special, which is established very often early on but ... somehow has two childhood friends who are world-class: one being a gal character the other one being a popular idol. Just like the synopsis says - they had become distant with time, like it happens so often in the real world as well. Life, right?

But with every chapter progressing the story further along, I grew to like all the characters involved in this story. It grows from a cliche setting to something a bit more unique only to be found in this manga - as far as my knowledge goes (but I am by no means a love polygon expert).

Let's talk about the characters, shall we? I've shortly glanced at some reviews for this manga before choosing to write my own and there is one that has a scathing outlook on the characters - especially the main trio. After reading that review I just knew, that this person has not finished the manga at all - and this assumption was correct - as I can not disagree more strongly with that reviewer's opinion. The main cast - I am including the main trio and their friends in this - all have different personalities and strong/weak sides. One gets an in-depth look even at the side-characters seeing a side to them that one didn't expect to see. And the main trio? Let me tell you, I was surprised by most of the stuff they did/chose to do.

What more to say about this manga? The story is awesome, the characters are well-written and interesting, the art style is doing the story just. The ending... oooh the ending. I loved and hated the ending. It showed the growth of the whole main cast but I was really sad to see it end. I am just like many of us: if we love a story and the ending is awesome, we still seek for more - just another epilogue or side story to see our beloved characters once more. This was the case here as the ending felt just as rushed as the beginning: but not in a bad way.

Give this manga a chance!

Love polygon as the major theme listed? Funny. The author even like left one of the heroine out of the story almost entirely and she's still listed as main character? It's no more than a rom-com SoL, believe me.

Story (8): Well, I'm not a person who's gonna against author's rights in building their fantasy into a literary media. But the fact that I've said above, it just obvious that it's kinda annoying since I was expecting a love triangle drama (Shout out for White Album). Yea it's still count as love triangle but you won't feel it's right either after reading for like 10 chapters ... (? not sure). At some turning of events that I was so much excited for (or did I?) again I got turned down by how the author skipped it out out of the blue and continuing the story like it was never such a thing in the first place. The story itself isn't really that complex since you can predict how it will going to be ended right form the start. Yea, that's another point of how annoying it is. But overall if you are not considering the love polygon tag and see this work as a pure rom-com, it's a green light.

Side Story (?): Side story involving other characters I found A-OK. Not bad, but not great either. But if you wanted to ask which better, I'll give my vote to the band. I don't think it's just a waste, so, no worries.

Art (9): The character design is cute, especially for both main heroine. But that's also the reason why I thought that the author actually avoiding serious drama or otherwise it kinda looks off at some point even though it doesn't really matter anyway.

Characters (7): Loveable for main characters but pretty generic. Not that unique since you can find the trope in almost all the same manga type as this. Their reasoning in building up the story is just too lazy, I guess it just how most of harem story works. Protagonist isn't really great but I like the fact that he's not too hyperbolic like how harem protagonist in most manga. Wanna know what it means? Read it.

Edit: Yea, I know it's not harem but, I just kinda couldn't think otherwise when writing the review.

TL;DR: Mediocre but it's a great reading. Just one advice from me is that try to let go that hope of seeing love triangle drama since it's not really the point here.

tl;dr: A rom-com that starts pretty generic but gets quite interesting, though it has a pretty weak ending.

The begins with the protagonist, Tatara, having a photo taken of him hanging out at an amusement park with his childhood friend Yuriko. This is a problem because Yuriko is an idol, and even though the two of them were there just to buy something, if people think she went on a date with a boy it could cause problems. Luckily, she was in disguise. Unfortunately, she was in disguise as her gyaru twin sister, Ranko, and thus everyone at school thinks that it was actually Ranko on ... a date with Tatara. Ranko being the good sister that she is decides to play along and says that she’s going out with Tatara. And due to various circumstances, they have to keep up the fake relationship. Even though Tatara has a crush on Yuriko.

With the basic premise of this manga being that the protagonist has to fake a relationship with a blonde despite having a crush on another black haired girl, it probably gives major Nisekoi vibes. And to be frank, the first half does feel a lot like a not as good Nisekoi. The first half is essentially just a bunch of unconnected rom-com episodes that aren’t all that great. The comedy is somewhat mediocre. Tatara has essentially nothing to him and is incredibly boring. Ranko isn’t all that interesting either. The manga starts off with her and her friends having really strong personalities, but as the manga progresses their gyaruness gets toned down significantly. Though her relationship development with Tatara is solid enough. Yuriko has essentially no presence since she’s off busy being an idol. It’s hard to even call it a love triangle considering how little we see of that side of the polygon.

Things definitely turn around in the second half though. For one, the comedy improves. The plot also goes in a pretty different direction and embraces the fact that there is one girl clearly being focused on more. It emphasizes how the differences between the two and how they interact with Tatara resulted in differences in relationship development between the two. Tatara gets fleshed out much better as a character. Ultimately, I think it does a pretty good job of building up to why he picks the girl that he does. The manga also throws in some themes relating to figuring out what you truly want out of life that I thought were pretty interesting. However, the ending was incredibly rushed and muddled a lot of what the second half was doing so well. The time skip especially felt unnecessary and straight up contrary to the themes of the relationship arc between Tatara and Ranko. As a result, I can’t say I’m entirely satisfied with the ending.

The art was decent enough but not particularly amazing. Character designs were generic but worked well enough I suppose. Also, I thought it was sweet how in the credits the mangaka put Special Thanks to “My Mom” in each volume.

Hanazono-san Chi no Futago-chan is a run-of-the-mill harem manga that has essentailly no original or groundbreaking ideas what so ever. The story follows our main protagonist, who has little to no personality, and his two childhood friends who want his babies. Hanazono-san Chi no Futago-chan copies many ideas presented in degenerate shows such as kiss x sis and hajimete no gal. The cast consists of your mediocre harem cast that you will easily forget because they exist in every other harem manga. The younger sister is a popular idol who wants the guy's babies, and the older sister is a deliquent student, who wants the ... guy's babies. Outside of being an idol and a gal, these characters have no other personality that makes them stick out. The gal acts like a gal, and the shy idol acts like an idol. The art was solid, as it was never amazing nor jawdroppingly bad. Hanazono-san Chi no Futago-chan is just one of those guily pleasure shows that you will read once, and forget about a day later.
