If you like Shiroi Heya no Futari, then you'll like Claudine...! It's another Yuri classic with tragic love and lesbianism.The story is told by the eyes of a Doctor she visits many times. It's about a woman named Claudine who convinces herself that she is a boy, even when her concerned mother tells her that she isn't. Claudine, throughout the story, falls in love with many girls, but they keep turning her down. Will she ever find love? Or will her life end tragically? 

Two manga from the 70s who share the same aesthetic. The discussed themes are similar : they're both about society outcasts and the problems lgbt people have to undergo. They also address topics such as sexuality or philosophy. Also, they both have an atmosphere and a particular drawing style that makes you wonder what's real or not. 

Two short manga that address a common theme: the image of transsexuality in previous centuries. The two periods are different, although both are ancient: in Hatshepsut, it is ancient Egypt, and in Claudine, France at the beginning of the twenty-first century. The two main characters are two transgender men coming from an healthy family and who are particularly popular with women. They live in a historical context that's oppsed at their true identity. One can note however a difference between the two characters: while Hatshepsut admits her "part of femininity", Claudine fights for his principles. Also, serious themes such as death are discussed. In addition, the two works are kinda old, one dating from the 70s and the other from the 80s. This is noticeable in their similar art style that may seem a bit old. read more 

Both manga were created by Ikeda Riyoko and therefore are naturally quite dramatic. Both have main heroes/heroines that while being physically female dress and act like males (one even identifies as a male). Also both experience unrequited love and intense longing while their ending is similar and heartbreaking. 

Old school artwork, old school drama and tragedy--both are relatively earlier explorations of the shoujo genre into the subject of homosexuality and gender identity. 

They are from the same mangaka, the main character in "Rose" also fells and acts like a man, her father raises her like a boy and the other people see her in the same way.  

Both are considering transgender issues realistically and with respect, what isn't seen too often in manga.
