Synopsis

In the distant future, individuals who adore the old way of life live in Kowloon Walled City—a slum city that serves as a refuge for those who long for the Hong Kong of the past. Realtor Reiko Kujirai, however, craves for the new and exciting places in the area. In contrast, her only coworker, Hajime Kudou, enjoys the nostalgia the city invokes and is put off by anything modern that seeps past its walls. But despite their differing views and constant bickering on the most mundane of things, the two often find themselves enjoying each other's company.

One day, a prank gone wrong leads Hajime to make an unexpected advance toward Reiko, after which he swiftly apologizes for. Baffled by his actions, Reiko starts investigating for possible explanations, only to discover a past that she has no memory of.

Background

Kowloon Generic Romance was nominated for the sixth Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Awards in 2020. The series ranked third in the 2021 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the Male Readers division. In the same year, the manga was nominated for the 14th Manga Taisho Award and placed ninth in the final ranking.

The series has been published in English by Yen Press since August 9, 2022, and in French by Kana since May 21, 2021.

Kowloon generic romance is a manga with a very 1990’s vibe but contemporary art style (which will make you nostalgic if you’ve grown up with that sort of art). I initially thought this was a normal office based romance set in Kowloon (in Hongkong) but man I was so wrong.
Since it is still publishing, I don’t know where the story is going too but so far it is keeping me piqued with curiosity. I love how it’s displaying the elements of a dystopian utopia so beautifully, be it the art or the story. (It also reminded a bit of summertime render due to the ...

Being a relatively new series , the story of romance revolving around Kowloon walled city is most definitely a interesting , unique , mysterious and confusing one .

The story itself begins quite simple , yet as it slowly progresses the plot tenses , darkens and with each new chapter mysteries of Kowloon and it's residents starts to unravel . Past , Present , Death , Alive , Lies , Truth , Love , Hate is all but questions that awaits to be answered In the walled city of kowloon

So i just read this full recently, until latest translated chapter. And having it read before, this is the equivalent to The series called Lost.

In Lost, each episode you are bombared with new information and new lore. But what kowloon does not get a grip at is that they never reveal the lore, presumably in the last chapters of this manga everything will be explained.
