Though "Can't Stop Cursing You" is a fairly new series, I'm surprised to be the first review up here. I believe this manga has a strong potential to grow into a great series. At first glance, it seems like your run-of-the-mill horror mystery featuring a detective with dubious morals, a pure-hearted side-kick, and a secret organization—but I can't help but compare the story to anime series such as "Bungo Stray Dogs" and "Death Note". From the first two pages of the manga, the perpetrator to the mystery is already revealed, leaving the rest of the arc to flush out a precarious game of cat and ... mouse between the main character, Saeyama, and the culprit. During these first four chapters, the manga lays the footwork for a universe that seems a lot closer to life than fantasy. The toolbox that the main characters and curses utilize has strong limits that force them to think outside of the box to achieve their goals.

"Can't Stop Cursing You" has a ton of potential to become something great, but through my first reading, I also found major faults in its structure. For starters, there are several tropes the main cast falls into that I have seen too many times to count. Because of that, they aren't specifically memorable. Aesthetically speaking, each one could rack up a fair amount of 'stans' but if all this series has to offer is 'visual appeal' I don't think I will be sticking around for long.

That being said, it's still too soon to call whether this is a series you should invest yourself in. "Can't Stop Cursing You" has amazing potential, but could very well be another faceless series that buys into modern mystery tropes as a quick cash grab. I'm looking forward to purchasing the next volume when it becomes available in my area, and I'd recommend those who want to try something new to give this manga a peek.

First I'll start of by saying I'm amazed this series is so unpopular and unknown, it's a real hidden gem

This story is about a very smart main character who has the supernatural ability to ask a single question with the answer being either "yes" or "no" per victim that's been killed by a curse contractor: someone that's made a contract with a curse god. these contracts have new unique conditions every time making each case very different from the previous. The stakes for both the MC and the contractor are always more than high enough to create some level of tension or suspense. and ... plenty of people end up dead usually.

if you're into murder mystery or crime thriller you'll most likely like this manga, the MC is a coolheaded guy that doesn't care much for morals or people. and with each case you"ll get an almost death note like cat and mouse chase between usually a smart criminal and our genius MC. So far the logic the characters use is completely sound and there aren't any plotholes or asspulls.

The characters aren't the main focus of this manga, the cases are, just like they should be in this kind of story. the MC is really the star of the show and most of the rest are there to fullfill their roles for the sake of the plot for the most part and aren't particucarily fleshed out but they're solid and many have their own unique quircks,

The art is absolutely great I have no problems with it but it can get pretty graphic so beware. if you're not into mystery/crime/thriller/edgy stuff you're probably not gonna like this much. and if you enjoy reading stories in general mostly for the characters rather than the plot or the story then you might feel like it's lacking in the character department since it's not the main focus.

in terms of how this seperates itself from other similar manga, I'd say the biggest difference is the use of logic, this is just smarter and better written than most of them and it sets itself apart more than enough for it to feel fresh for me even though I've already read and watched a whole bunch of fairly similar works.

Basically a clone of Death Note but boring and episodic.

Nothing wrong with the Death Note template, but making it episodic really hurts the overall manga and it comes across as really boring and inconsequential. There is a very loose story connecting the volumes but for the most part they are self contained similar to a horror anthology. The fact that this manga was cancelled after only 4 volumes also confirms that it needed some type of plot other than "find the curse."

Best thing i can say is it doesn't shy away from violence; everything else is mediocre. Characters are generic, boring, unlikable. The plot feels ... rushed and leaves zero time for any type of character development. Everyone is "crazy" but it comes across as cringe.

Kind of a waste of time.
