Preliminary Spoiler

Preliminary (11/? chp)
Mao is Takahashi Rumiko's next big-manga after Rin-ne. Whether or not it can become popular overseas or even if it's popular in Japan is anybody's guess. But I imagine this series will run for 10 years like all her other stories. I have caught up to the chapters that have been released so far, so I'll give my first impression reviews as the story starts to unfold.

This review will be split into 2 parts. The first part is talking about MAO itself, while the next part will be talking about MAO in comparison to Inuyasha. Of course no big spoilers.

as of chapter 130

Mao is a lot like inuyasha in terms of the tone and style. However it focuses more on supernatural mystery (a bit like Demon Slayer). It has all of the Rumiko Takahashi staples: Cool guy MC, sort of confusingly placed girl MC, an assistant, and a colourful cast of side characters, antagonists, and monsters of the week.

Things i liked about Mao:
1. Characters (8)
This story has a slow pace but it is actually a character centered drama. I think there is more actual character development here for most of the cast than MOST of her other manga. And when I say development, ...

Mao is a very classic Rumiko's work - all the character design, humours and love relationship are very Rumiko. I didn't surprised that many people compared it to Inuyasha but I think Mao is more refined and mature version.

But Inuyasha is our childhood favourite so It's not a fair comparison! Admit it, Inuyasha is not that perfect but we still love it!

Character: 8
Mao is the more gentle and handsome male main character among Rumiko's universe. And it's reasonable that he doesn't have much emotions, he is over 900 years old so nothing can surprise him! and he definitely has chemical with Nanoka, ...

I think that this manga is very good so far and i believe that it is going to go very far in the industry and i also believe that Rumiko Takahashi has done an amazing job with it so far. I have read up to the 3rd volume and it really has hooked me so far and i really love it a lot. In a way it does remind me of inuyahsa and I hope that someday it will end up with an anime adaptation and i do think that you should totally give this a read. it is very heavy on fantasy just ...

If I had to describe this story, then I guess it will have to be “meh.” I think Mao is a sum of how a mangaka can lose her foot in the game, especially after Takahashi has landed major hits in the industry, and she has had endless success over her long career.

There is nothing bad about the story, but there is nothing good about it either. Whenever I read this story, I just feel like I have experienced this before, and that’s unfortunate, since the overall story is much slower and darker than many of her past series. Mao premise so ...

Only for hardcore Inuyasha fans. The artwork is so bad and the story is so boring It just doesn't hold up by modern standards.

I suppose some people might like the retro old-school feel but that's about the only good thing I can say here. If you picked this manga up randomly you would think it was from the 1950's based on the artwork and simplistic story. It seems like the author has a large following from previous works so that's probably why something like this can exist. Thankfully the manga isn't pretending to be something it's not. What you see in the first chapter is ...
