When I first came across this Manga, I saw a lot of negative reviews surrounding it, so I didn't bother to pick it up and give it a go. That was probably one of the biggest mistakes I've made!
Reading this Manga is like experience a gust of fresh air, let me tell you why!
If you hadn't already worked it out, this manga is about two high schoolers dating, sounds pretty bog-standard. What makes this story different is the fact that Meguro (the woman) has been in relationships before dating the male protagonist.
Many people can not stand the fact that Meguro

I'm sure a lot of people rate this low because of its concept. I don't need to be the one to tell you that a lot of men have a weirdly twisted view of virginity and the sanctity of the act of sex. However, I bring this up to emphasize that my middling feelings on this manga are not about that at all. I'm writing this review mostly to justify that fact to anyone who sees the score I gave this story. The fact of the matter is I think that the base concept behind this manga is actually decently interesting on paper. Seeing how

The worst final 5 chapters I think I've read of any series ever. I don't blame people for not bothering to translate 78 and its not even worth reading, it manages to completely destroy years of surprisingly good storytelling with a terrible redemption arc (if it can even be called that) for an objectively disgusting person. Arguably even more amazing considering the authors apparent reversal on his own outlook on relationships and sex compared to the earlier chapters.
If you force yourself to read stop at Ch72, for your own sake. A 7/10 turned into a 3 *at best* in under 40 pages. May 9, 2020
Alright I'm doing this to add much needed context to this thing.
So the story itself is actually a very good and heartwarming one. At its core it is a girl who has been devoid of almost any emotional connection finally experiencing what it is and learning to love again. It is a very wholesome and feel good story. The protagonist is someone very accepting and clearly what this girl needs in his life and the affect she is having on him is improving him like he is improving her. It is a very good and healthy realtionship that is heartwarming to read. Now... for the clickbait ... Sep 2, 2024
I will write so short in order to not waste your valuable time, unlike this waste-of-time manga. As expected, a town bike and her doormat. There are better mangas that you can enjoy without rolling your eyes every page. Author doesn't know what he's trying to do and tons of loopholes. All the other reviews are just based on a couple of chapters and since they found a good looking fmc, they didn't even look at the plot. When you finish it, which you shouldn't even start reading this manga, you will just say it was a waste of time. So there you go,

I feel like this manga's general audience would be people who feel like their value has been placed on them based on what people had wanted from them in their past relationships. Meguro is so used to appealing the needs of he former significant others that she does not know what she wants anymore; that itself resonated a lot for me which got I'm into this manga.
This manga does not give a straightforward answer to what love looks like, its open minded enough to say " just because you disagree, Doesn't mean you cant be friends" most of the manga I've read so far ... Jan 12, 2025
Interesting, no reviewer here has actually finished the manga (at least as of me writing this).
As a small TLDR; it's a great idea for a manga to touch the mature side of a relationship built on a disparity, but the execution is boring, with a pretty, and weirdly stupid final arc. Read it if you still find the synopsis interesting. “Meguro-san wa Hajimete ja Nai” is one more in the many “manga about a normal guy and a girl with a twist”. You have the Komi-san, and her communication problem, Uzaki and her massive plots, Nagatoro and her bullying, and many others which I started ... |
