Both of these beautiful slice-of-life stories occur during the twilight of humanity and feature a pair of protagonists who have become family to one another while living and trying to find meaning in their lives in a post-apocalyptic world with heavy mono-no-aware themes and tones. Both stories have melancholic undertones with strong themes of hope present. Ginga no Shinanai Kodomotachi e is a unique work of art that deserves a far wider audience, so give this rare gem a try if you enjoyed Girl's Last Tour, and you likely won't be sorry you did so.

Short stories take place in the post-apocalyptic world with the main characters being abandoned children and getting adopted by abnormal creatures. They look light-hearted and adorable on the surface but actually are dark and bear powerful messages.

A post-humanity Earth is inhabited by immortal humanoids who spend their days idling in thought. There is a parent/mentor figure who looks after immortal “children”, and has destructive powers for an unknown reason. The protagonist is a naïve and curious girl who likes to explore.

Both of these beautiful slice of life stories feature immortal or nigh immortal protagonists living through the twilight of humanity in a post-apocalyptic world with heavy mono-no-aware themes and tones. Ginga no Shinanai Kodomotachi e is perhaps the darker of the two stories, but there are strong themes of hope present in both this and Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou despite their melancholic undertones. Ginga no Shinanai Kodomotachi e is a unique work of art that deserves a far wider audience, so give this rare gem a try if you enjoyed YKK and you likely won't be sorry you did so.
