Despite being label a shoujo under Ribon Magazine this story speaks about important issues like sexual harassments, double standards, idol expectations, gender roles honestly I love it. Yes, it is dark but its realistic. The main character has trauma from being assaulted and is slowly trying to learn more about herself and is even being a supporting figure to other people who are in similar situations. It has the regular cute art style but that doesn't draw away from the real problems at hand.
It's called Not Your Idol in English and is being published under VIZ so I really recommend reading it.

I might be over-exaggerating to some people, but I think this manga is seriously incredible ! I love classic shojo manga art with a cute heroine with big eyes. All the characters have been drawn beautifully and I usually take a long time reading this because I'm staring at the art.
I have read 2 volumes, volume 2 really hit me hard with the darker themes for shojo manga that was written in here. I love the story because it is NOTHING like any other shojo manga I've read! It does exaggerate the dialogue a little bit (if you read it you'll know), but it ... Apr 27, 2021
Known as "Not Your Idol" in the US translation. This is the best shoujo manga I have read. This is a psychological thriller, a crime mystery, and romance. From the synopsis, I was hooked. This is like Japan's Extracurricular, the hit kdrama that came out last year. I'd rank it highly, next to Glass Mask and Princess Tutu. I'd even categorize this as a jousei manga due to the level of maturity and self awareness from the characters and the direction. What this tells is highly relevant, especially now more than ever, especially with the unsteady social and racial climate that is coming out of

I've only read the first volume, it was hard to find this, because in America it's known as Not Your Idol, which is frankly a better title than Goodbye Miniskirts, and fits the story and characters a bit better.
I find this to be an interesting read, with some interesting commentary on harassment and other things. It has good art, and I like the characters. There are some thriller(I think that's the right term) aspects as well, with some psychological. I can't really say much because it's the first volume, and I've still got a bit. Just trust me when I say based off my first impressions, this ... |
