A pretty good horror read during quarantine times. Shigahime does have that whole vampire trope going on with nothing making it stand out from a story perspective. The writing is an issue with many instances of characters acting a bit corny sometimes. However, the artwork is simply amazing and it is one of the reasons it got me hooked into finishing this brutal story through. The dread and eerie atmosphere was also consistent and it leaves you wanting to discover the cause and plot to this dark atmosphere.

Let me start by saying that it is in fact a great art and it has an engaging plot but I cannot recommend this kind of manga, there is no reason to sexualize the relationship between children and adults, it`s in fact terrible. I do not intend to be part of the pedophile normalization acts, thats all.
In fact, since the beginning I should have already dropped, but I gave it another chance due to story and underlining japanese culture. Spoiler: Chapter 23 is a game changer for me... An adult forcing a child to masturbate in front of her is just beyong limits of acceptable. Apr 22, 2020
I have never written a review before because I'm too lazy, but I can't believe this manga doesn't have one yet so here's my extremely short review:
Just as a warning, this manga is gory, it has uncomfortable moments involving minors, nudity and a bunch of other crazy stuff... If you still decide to read it then enjoy the story, it's diverse characters, and the AMAZING art! As a horror manga lover I genuinely enjoyed this manga. I got hooked as soon as I started reading it, and since it's not long you can finish it in less than a day (at least I did) Overall, ... Oct 25, 2023
Shigahime is an interesting manga, it starts very slow and the only peak is at the very end.
The main protagonist Osamu is fairly boring, in fact all the characters are. They don't stray from the box they're set in. Miwako is the only character that properly gets the manga going, she's the sadistic villain that has no remorse for her actions. Also, she likes minors. Throughout the manga there are questionable scenes to do with adults and children, such as Miwako forcibly kissing Osamu or Tamaki telling Souichi to masturbate in front of her. For the horror aspect of the manga, it isn't too ... Apr 22, 2021
If you want to read something different read this manga!
Although it is a vampire story, it's not a casual story you are used to see. It is pretty good, the end isn't the best one around but at least does not throws it all in the trash can. I got pretty hyped reading it, specially the early volumes. It does have a lot of Ecchi stuff but always perfectly mixed with the horror and gore the manga has. That for sure got me really into this manga. The art is GODLIKE. Really. Read it even if you hate vampires. I got caught first by the art ... Apr 15, 2021
QUICK SPOILER-FREE REVIEW:
While it can be read in one or two sits, it will certainly leave an impact on much more than that. This short manga is strangely dichotomic, delicate and brutal, beautiful and ugly. There's much to love and to cringe on (not because it's poorly written, the opposite actually). Great characters, good twists (although sometimes predictable) and extremely unique overall. Even with its absurd premise and bizarre yet kinda corny things going on, it keeps on being well written and will make you read non stop until the end. A pretty good yet uncomfortable read for anyone looking for something different and to be filled with ... Sep 3, 2021
I ended reading this manga after it appeared suggested when I finished one from Junji Ito.
At first I thought it was just some kind of story about vampires... But oh God. Turns out I discovered a hidden gem. The artwork is really really amazing, I still can't get why I never heard about this mangaka. The story keeps your eyes on the manga craving it page by page. It has some high and low, but it's really really enjoyable and makes you want even more. I wonder why it has only 5 volumes, so much untapped potential... If you are looking for a really really good horror, gore, disturbing, psychological manga, ... Jul 9, 2023
In fact, this is a hidden gem, really. Though the pace may seem a little slow at first, it gradually becomes a carefully crafted story that draws readers into it. Additionally, the art in Shigahime is exceptional, featuring intricate details and somewhat atmospheric images that elevate the overall experience. The combination of intriguing storytelling and good illustrations creates a sense of awe and dread that gives goosebumps long after reading. Without a doubt, I definitely recommend this manga to horror fans who crave fresh and distinctive horror shorts, and to anyone looking for a fun and unique read. Personally I would rate it 8/10.

Good, short read with incredible art and a very twisted story. The characters are believable and interesting- they have flaws, and they have pretty grey morality (apart from the obvious evil ones). It'll make you very uncomfortable and still have you completely hooked. The fights can also be pretty entertaining and involve very unique and cool designs. Fighting isn't the focus of the manga, though- it doesn't get in the way of the story.
Be ready to see some pretty disturbing stuff involving gore, minors and nudity. Yes, all 3 at the same time. I'm not really a fan of some of the stuff involving minors, ... Apr 7, 2022
This story was better than I prepared it to be. Personally, this story kept me on my feet and left suspense. A lot of the story had unexpected segments that brought me to a place of satisfaction. I hope for whoever is reading this, that you will also enjoy this story, as I did. Do not get me wrong, it's sorta strange in its own way. However, it's beautiful in its very own way. The characters are well developed and intriguing. They make you guess, and figure out what the hell is going on. The art is so elegant and well-detailed. It's quite pleasing to

Shigahime offers a deeply engaging storyline that is further accentuated by its monumental art. Hirohisa Sato showcases characters with substantial depth, and as the narrative unfolds, their evolution becomes evident, making readers invest emotionally in their journeys.
The art style in Shigahime is worth highlighting. Sato employs a unique blend of traditional and modern techniques, making each frame both a story in itself and a piece of art to be admired. This distinct style particularly accentuates the manga's darker and more intense moments, pulling the reader deeper into its world. Thematically, Shigahime delves into topics rarely addressed in mainstream manga, intertwining sensuality and sexuality in a manner ... |
