Can’t stress it enough… If you’re intro suspense and psychological thrillers, this manga is a must read.
Art is absolutely incredible, and it keeps improving until the very end.
Characters are memorable, believable and are wonderfully written.
Now, for the story, I can’t say for sure I followed every tiny detail and I admit skim reading some parts (not because it was bad or boring, but to find out what happens next), but it’s impossible not to say this plot is extremely well thought out and interesting. Never have I seen so many twists and turns, all impressively cohesive.
Overall, this was a blast to get through. There

VERY SHORT SPOILER FREE REVIEW:
Firstly, the anime adaptation is a abomination that shouldn't exist. This is NOT the case of "oh, the manga was better", since it's drastically different in story, tone and overall direction. Basically, if you're a cringelord, go watch the anime. If you're more sensible and you're open to a more intrinsic, political and psychological story, give this manga a shot. The author does not disappoint. Starting with mediocre art, story and characters, this series rapidly grows and keeps improving in quality on an incredible rate. Personally I have some issues with the first half of Tokyo Ghoul, but it makes up for it ... Apr 15, 2021
QUICK SPOILER-FREE REVIEW:
While it can be read in one or two sits, it will certainly leave an impact on much more than that. This short manga is strangely dichotomic, delicate and brutal, beautiful and ugly. There's much to love and to cringe on (not because it's poorly written, the opposite actually). Great characters, good twists (although sometimes predictable) and extremely unique overall. Even with its absurd premise and bizarre yet kinda corny things going on, it keeps on being well written and will make you read non stop until the end. A pretty good yet uncomfortable read for anyone looking for something different and to be filled with ... Apr 15, 2021
I'm not fond of reviewing with numbers, but this series is what I would consider a solid 6.
I'm a huge fan of the author's work, and while this manga has his distinct style, it's one of his worst ones. Art: I don't know the context with its creation, but Happiness is nothing special. Its style is very sketchy, different but not special. Nothing follows right perspective or right anatomy, but it doesn't bother much, at least it's consistent. Story and characters: Simple, mildly entertaining but nothing special. The normal "adolescent turning vampire" trope is presented without being corny, although brings nothing new to the table. "Shigahime", another similar manga in ... Apr 15, 2021

Firstly, THE ANIME IS COMPLETE GARBAGE.
Ok now on to the review. This is one of the best manga I've read of all time. There's a lot of people that don't like it, but instead of engaging in reviews, I strongly advise you to read it and form your own opinion. It's the second part of Tokyo Ghoul (a great but very flawed story, specially in the first half), but feels very different. It's extremely well written, sensible, intricate and mature. Its themes and philosophy is something I've yet to see in comparable quality in another story. Considering the large cast of characters, and the main conflict of war, TG:re is ... |
