My first public review, and what else do you think deserves it better than this intricate work of art?
I will have to be candid. This manga is a bait. A clear-cut one. However, it isn't a typical one. A masterfully woven one it is, if that isn't an understatement.
How else? Firstly, it labors as a filter to distinguish between the humans that pay attention to the media they're consuming & others that won't take more than glancing at the "ludicrous" premise to start their barrage of hate. Looking at no more than the synopsis, you would envision something pervaded with comedy granted the silly premise.
...
That radically shifts when you hop on it. The vital chord it plays on is the sentiments, and it strikes quite heavy by the end. It tries to present something more meaningful than merely grabbing a laugh out of you. It challenges itself to tickle the feelings of the consumer despite having such an off-the-wall concept. Last one that did it in my scope was One Piece with a specific ship, and they took more build up to gain that. Therefore, even if it failed to move you to the marrow, appreciation should be present for trying such a bizarrely difficult task.
Crystal clear theme it tried to convey is generosity is not to the people that don't earn it. You would present, and they would take. That would become a cycle. The cycle would repeat and without realizing it's no longer a thing of your choice. They would exploit that weakness and use it against you.
Say if a species of animals were known at a period of time for that characteristic, it is not far-off to believe the natural selection have gotten the better of them. Their line wouldn't last for long. That's just how it is in nature. It's true that it doesn't work for humans as they're a more sophisticated structure with the gift known as brains, but the closest thing that would happen in their case had they taken that characteristic to its extreme is the complete destruction of their life by the same of those they're generous to.
If we cast that aside, the main takeaway—atleast from my perspective—from this timeless masterpiece is how we barely lose sleep over elements that don't feel alive to us, or perhaps to word it better I would say "beings that aren't human". If the main character was an entity of that sort or atleast a being we're familiar with, would we have been more emotionally attached to it? Would we have given more care for its journey? Would we have wanted it to have a fairy tale ending? The answer is cruel yet an easy one, simply put, yes.
We need to get this thing to more people, seriously.
