The second I saw the cover art I was reminded of Hyakujitsu. Both centre around a dark haired pretty boy in the military and his devoted older blond companion, and both deal with pretty dark themes. Though they both comment on questionable morality and internal strife (both political and personal), in Hyakujitsu it's caused by outright war while Ilegenes has a more underground rebellion/academic atmosphere. Also while Hyakujitsu is straight up yaoi, Ilegenes just has a lot of subtext. I mean A LOT. Readers who like Hyakujitsu's action (in both senses of the word) might be frustrated by Ilegenes but the character development and emotional  read more

Toxic feels like it's trying very hard to best Ilegenes and borrowed certain aspects (cute, uniformed guys in military setting and revolutionaries in shoujo manga), but instead of providing light commentary on genetic engineering, it has more man-whoring (perhaps a positive with someone frustrated at Ilegenes?). It mostly feels like a rip-off so far, so try the other out.

Both Ilegenes and Spiral deal with similar aspects and both a mystery to be solved.

Both mangas deal with genetic modifications in humans. Although Ilegenes is more focused on cloning, while Kieli is actually a modification in the human body, both still deal with people being against this kind of research.

We have a young, black haired boy who suffers from severe trauma - having witnessed the murder of his parents at the hands of unknown enemies, when he was but a child. As he grows up, he has one thing on his mind - to take revenge on the people who made his life miserable, and he doesn't care what he has to do to achieve his goal. And by the side of our young of noble/high birth MC, we have his trusted butler/friend, who also happens to be a tall, gorgeous blond.

If you enjoy reading about pretty boys within a military setting (that has an actual plot and character development), then this recommendation is perfect for you

Set in an alternate reality, both manga deal with a society where technological advancements have made it possible for androids/humanoids to exist in perfect harmony. They're so perfect, in fact, that nobody can tell the difference between the two. There's also a thriving black market for these entities. But keep in mind that while Void is an out and out BL manga, Illegenes only has hints of BL. But ah, both manga have *gorgeous* art!

They both have the same loneliness, aristocrats, loyal friend, military, and both man character are searching for who they really are. Once you watch it you'll find out however, Ilegenes: Kokuyou no Kiseki is a bit darker than 07- Ghost

Both have artwork that's rich/dark/realistic. Both are in the josei genre, and deal with corruption, the underworld, and human enhancement (more so Ilegenes).

both have military a prodigy and and homunculi things. FMA has a lot more humor and has a lighter atmosphere and feel to it then Ilegenes ~ Kokuyou no Kiseki ~.

Both are Shoujo/Josei works focusing on character psychology, emotions and relationships rather than particularly on action, as well as having a strong science-fiction core, in particular focusing on genetic engineering. Eternal Sabbath focuses on a female neuroscientist and characters who are engineered with an 'ES' gene which was supposed to be the key to long life and increased health but ended up also bestowing telepathy, and inevitably leads one of the experiments to revolt. Ilgenes focuses on different boys in a military academy and their moral views on the various forms of genetic engineering used around them in their society, including the ethical ramifications of clones harvested  read more

Both of these are hidden gems in the world of manga. Both MC's have pasts shrouded in mystery, riddled with danger and heartache. The art to both is extrardinary, and the relationships between charactors both touching and provoking. These mangas with make you scream, cry, laugh, and want to read them all over again.

Both mangas deal with illegal genetic experiments on human beings and are set in cities characterized by corruption and violence. Also, two of the main characters are similar for some aspects: Haine and Fon are both cold guys, both have a similar dramatic past and both would like to take down an organization which deal with genetic experiment. Moreover, both mangas are pretty dark and dramatic.

Who are you? For many of us we know, we are a friend, sister, brother, wife, father, neighbor, cousin, etc. But what would happen if that relationship was severed? What if we learn that relationship was never real to start with? Our sense of self dissolves as our bonds weaken. Yasha and Ilegenes: Kokuyou no Kiseki tackle family, genetic engineering, and self-actualization. What does it mean to be human, alive, loved, and needed? These MCs go through challenge after challenge, friendships and loss, safety and terror as they seek their answers.
