this is my first review so bear with me, I saw that this manga had no reviews so I thought I would do one, no spoilers, Ill start with the story i give it a 7, there isn't much to the story, the main character (taiga) and a group of his friends walk into a cave and find a cave painting afterwards the cave starts falling in and they escape, but when they come out of the cave they find them selves around 40,000 years in the past, the story follows taiga and his friends as they survive in the world, there isn't much else ... to it so far. next is art i give it 8, it's not the best art you'll see but its quite good, you can tell whats going on and the characters have a unique design ,overall it's nothing special but it gets the job done. next is the characters i give it a 7.5, the characters aren't great but you will like them and/or hate them, the main character has a plain personality, but he does a lot of cool stuff and you grow to like him more and more, the side characters are likable but nothing special except for one of them and he is really annoying and you will want him to die, and there is small bit of romance between taiga and a girl who i think is very cute. finally is enjoyment, i give it 8.5 i found this manga very enjoyable, there are some really cool moments, the main character is likable as are the side characters, and there is also fun facts about animals and the time period it takes place in so you are also gaining knowledge, if you read holy land which was also made by the same mangaka the information sections about martial arts are the same here except its about animals and survival techniques, overall i give it a score of 8, i think it is a good read and you should give it a try, at the beginning it is boring but it get's interesting quite fast.

This is a Story about survival, the main character Taiga only having a mediocre life finds himself in the past together with others with no way back to the present day, they have to hunt, Fight and Kill in order to survive.
It is in this world, Thousands of years in the past where Taiga discovers the meaning and joy of life, learns the primitive language, helps Homo sapiens rise to power in the war against the Neanderthals, and creates a future for humanity.

The art style is a bit odd but you get used to it, it gives this manga a unique aspect, the ... author really works hard on the story and art and I really want to buy this Manga when it gets an English Translation and Publication.

The real story starts to pick up around chapter 50 where they show their modern knowledge and begin the rise of the Homo Sapiens!

It started very well for me. I assimilated taiga's search and inner problems. I think it describes the feeling of being stuck in modernity well. mangaka who was able to convey the feelings of the side characters, especially those who could not adapt, to us in later part of the story. Idea of ​​going back to prehistoric times drives me crazy, i like to imagine a day of people's ancestors. I like the drawings of early humans and extinct animals, it's exciting to recreate them

But i didn't like that they could adapt so quickly, i expected them to be stunned for a long time because ... you went back hundreds of thousands of years. an unacceptable, utterly improbable situation. there are extinct animals and and just after you identify which species it is, you start looking for a place to stay. are you kiddin me? Is it really that simple to put it aside? Moreover, how in a short time taiga were able to learn the language of homo sapiens? How can a college student studying for hours adapt mentally and physically to fight so quickly? even if he was talented, even if he was spiritually ready, how did his muscles adapt so quickly?

and nazis? I think the story is tied to most cliched place.

Long story short Sousei no Taiga is a Seinen version of Dr Stone. And it does it's job well.

MC too OP, MC has harem, there isn't anyone comparable to MC in greatness, OPness, usefulness, chadness and the like.
Theres one impressing leader neanderthal, a useful blacksmith, and very nimble and strong female neanderthal.
Unfortunately you could say everyone except these 4 characters is either a cannon fodder or a filler.

The style is absolutely great and fits this manga's dark and brutal story.

Sousei no Taiga is surely a refreshing read.

I hate serious historical manga that goes in long dialogues and historical details or the survival types that won't fail ro make you feel gloomy for the entire day after reading it but thankfully sousei no taiga manages to be anything but boring.

1.story
premise is simple so on chapter one we get right into it, and one thing i appreciate the most is the use of show-don't-tell at this stage of the manga. the characters don't dwell on the where and why they are there but rather let it sink in gradually which is a natural flow.
things seem ... to keep that natural flow throughout which I like i like when stories take a logical path it just makes sense.
I must admit that I am more interested in the day to day lives of humans who have to live with mammoths than i am in the conflict of racism having traveled back the the paleolithic era. at first i thought it was just a simple territorial dispute but it is now much grander than that and I'm this close to getting sick of it.

2. Art
Isn't vagabond level or anything but it didn't fail to capture, however, the absolute spookiness that each and everyone of our squad members felt when faced with the sight of the world as it was millions of years ago. when they faced an extinct species of trees and animals the author doesn't need to show me their scared faces because it is presented in a way that even the reader feels like they're right there in the moment i do appreciate that.

3. characters
the cast is pretty diverse in personalities but also in skin colour i do appreciate that. I am not sure why i feel, though that the characters interactions seem to fade more and more as the battles become more intense (that also makes sense story wise but it's still a shame)
I like the use of certain archetype, like chihiro being the funny cheerful girl, and riku being the older brother almost mom of the group. but my favourite by far is namuru who seems to have a lot of layers to his character i wish we explored it a bit more but well.
all in all i want a spin off of namuru with his family and for tiari and taiga to be married and have lots of kids i'm not asking for much, really. jk

as for the protagonist taiga i don't like how easy everything comes to him and it feels like the story is leading him rather than the other way around.

4.overall concept

very interesting and fun even though it could be more, it is enough.

A good portion of this review will be about the black representation in this manga, just because not often do manga have a super high amount of black characters.

The setting is in the ancient past, when Neanderthals and homo Sapiens still roamed around. The interest comes from seeing the characters from the future surviving in this setting, various characters using their different skills to further their success.

The characters in this manga are for the most part pretty distinct, and their personalities stay pretty consistent. There haven't ... been any moments where a character did something they up to that point wouldn't have ever done. If a character's personality or motives do change, this is shown and abruptly not changed.

There are a lot of black characters in this manga, and they aren't drawn in a super stereotypical or racist way. They do have different facial structures from the Japanese folks from the future, but that does make sense. There is a weird thing where the main black characters have a more anime aesthetic, while the background ones have more realistic and less stylized faces. Even so, I don't think the background characters are drawn in a demeaning way even given that fact. Also the black characters have pretty well drawn black hair, some have it in tight braids, while others just have it short while making sense given their hair type. Don't often see black hair done well.

Sometimes that happens with Japanese artists, they make their black characters, if they have any, into blatant stereotypes. I wouldn't say that's the case in this manga, all the black characters are literally at the 'Genesis' of human history, so they are pretty primative. This isn't shown in a way where someone would come away with the feeling that this is because they're black. They have their own culture and values that make sense given the setting.

Overall, as for the black representation in this manga, I would say it's done very well, which is a pleasant change from the only black character in a manga having an afro, big lips, and liking to rap.

Also just as a bonus, a character from the future had dyed hair, and it slowly grows out into his natural hair color. Just a thing I liked.
