If you ever thought the first volume of I am a Hero is the best and it should have continued without the zombies, then just skip over to Downfall/Reiraku as if nothing had happened.

If you like the shot of reality of Reiraku, you would love this work of Inio Asano, it's amazing how this author keep make us feeling the reality of other lifes with such amazing artwork and narrative... You would be completely in love with Solanin...

These two works are definitely aimed at a mature audience. Not mature as in “sex and violence”, rather mature as in “midlife crisis/depression”. If the topic doesn’t appeal to you, feel lucky :)

Short manga about and author and his works, his troubles with writing block and women.

Inio Asano (author of Reiraku) admittedly read Yoshiharu Tsuge's "Worthless Man", a classic of Gekiga. Art about the trade of art, both of these manga are pessimistic insights into the results of following one's most intimate dreams. Asano's "Downfall" might make you frown with disgust at its unrepentant honesty and selfishness; Tsuge's "Useless Man" might pull out the most compassionate sighs when it presents to you its crushing apathetic universe.

A brief look at a story of a burnt-out man in a self-deprecating, dysfunctional relationship with a weird woman he knows he has no business dating. Don't expect closure.
