THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Okay - it's the end of the story and everybody lives happily ever after.

Huh? Wait a minute - there's a next episode? The bad guy is back at it and now there are armies of mechas in the magical war?

Oh, okay - Munto will "call back" Yumemi and ask her for some more of her "power"... (so that's what kids are calling "it" in Japan nowadays... LOL)

BTW - that scene with Munto and Yumemi grunting and straining to finally "connect" - that wasn't too Freudian for you was it? LOL

Okay - the "good part" - it only took the teachers 10 minutes to figure out that the kids were swimming to the other side, and to run across the bridge to the other side. No wonder the kids don't listen to the teachers - the teachers are just as brain dead as the kids.

And I wonder where little miss air-for-brains will run off to next?

BTW II - if you happen to really love this series - don't fret at my comments too much, I'm just a cynical old sob

Looks like the two worlds merged finally even if it was for a short period of time. I'm looking forward to what the Magical Kingdom will do now against the evil elf villains.

Wow, talk about an episode that felt like the end.

As dbaranyi said, the teachers bit was great. And I'm glad the two love birds got across the river without any problems.
And if it wasn't for that OP and Preview of next episode, I'd 100% believe that this was the last episode.

Do we live to watch Anime, or watch Anime to live?

Nice!
Although... about the whole thing about the everyone-gets-to-see-floating-islands-in-the-sky-thing... you would expect more mass-panic hysteria, instead of just scientists being interested about it. Seems a little weak there... but meh. Maybe the subject'll be brought up again as the plot moves along.

So yea, good episode, pace's meh, and events aren't satisfactory portrayed in a more realistic way. Not bad overall so far, so looking forward to the 4th...

Great parallelism packed in that episode. I guess that's the end of the OVA part. Looks like we'll get new content next episode along with modern KyoAni art style. Looking forward to it.

I really don't get this anymore and this isn't that interesting either :/ Animationstyle looks still weird to me, but thank goddess there is good seiyuus. But this is little strange, but I hope that it will become more clear soon :3

Terrible writing. That dialogue is some of the worst I've ever heard. I almost died when none of the teachers could manage to swim through the slow moving river. And then they're all like, "Where are they going...? Oh wait!" I mean, come on. It's a river. It has two banks. They're headed towards one of them. And someone explain to me exactly how "calling the fire department" is going to help the situation. Laughable.

I did enjoy the scene with Yumemi struggling towards Munto. It was ridiculous, but not in an entirely bad way. Kind of disappointing that everything has reset again, but it's better than what I predicted - Munto joins the human world, loses his powers, and Yumemi has to hide him/teach him about the world. There's still a good chance that could happen, but it's not yet, so that's nice.

Does anyone else think that the child versions of the 3 main characters have abnormally huge eyes - even for anime? They take up 90% of their heads.

I would be heavily disappointed if I watched the OVA ending here.. they introduced so many things and that was all? I'm glad it isn't. For an opening to some more action it was fairly good.

Very good episode overall, it felt like the last episode of a series, with all that comes with it (although I would have been dissapointed to see that at the end of a series, I hate open-ended conclusions). Really looking forward to the next ep now, it was unexpectedly interesting, and it shares a Hell of a lot of similarities to one of the cult series released when I was a teenager, Escaflowne (everything, the themes, script, characters are alike), so I want to know more about this series, especially since I haven't watched the original OVA.

Couldn't agree with you more Naikou. This is really terrible. Writing is atrocious, character designs are terrible, and animation is choppy. But the cg is great. Honestly, Akikan looks better than this show. I can't believe that this is Kyoto's work. I'm baffled by the lack of quality on almost every level of production.

but honestly, i love the direction, enough for me to overlook all the negatives.

I also get the feeling that this series will make a HUGE up-swing when they get to the new material

on another note, should I count this as watching the first OVA?

HOORAY! It's slowly drifting away from being a direct copy of the OVA!

if you haven't seen the movie OVAs you probably should. it seems like the first six episodes will be the OVA versions retold. after that they will probably continue with the story.

you probably didn't pay much attention. they didn't go for a swim, they wanted to overcome the river together by crossing it. it was a trial.

I felt like today's episode is the actual ending. However, it's not.

Am I the only one who thinks that this show is a little bit rushed? I didn't quite understand the specifics of the show. It's like having two stories happening at the same time.

That's because 95% of these eps has been recycled from the old OVA #1. When they start pumping modern KyoAni after the second OVA episodes, I bet we'll see a massive improvement.

Adding onto what Orkel said, the first OVA was made in 2003, if I am not mistaken. So the OVAs are five years behind current KyoAni standards.

So don't bash the animation >.>

And they lived happily ever after?

This episode was...laughable. The teachers getting worried about the two swimming to the other side of the river. Calling the fire deparment? What the heck? You think that damn fire truck can swim? And everything is now all right because...umm...the girl touched Munto? Why, that makes perfect sense! I'm not even including the fabolous animation into it.

Should I drop Akikan or this? Or both?

Oh well, at least Suzume is cute.

So? Fumoffu was made in 2003 and that looks way better. But I get your point, KyoAni were new back then and OVA's don't have very high budgets.

I guess this means that we have to stick around a little bit.

I can't describe this show into words. It's like watching a show with fast paced events and less detail.

Honestly, the character design is tolerable. However, I can't really feel the story at all. The events on real life is far different from what is happening on the magical world. It is somehow unrelated.

I don't know about your country, but around here, if you're in a city with a river and people are drowning or at risk of drowning, as was the case, you call the Fire Department. In Japan it's probably the same (or at least I'm assuming it is).

I really enjoyed this episode and can't wait to see the story being fleshed out even more.
The art doesn't bother me (apreciate different styles and I realize this is old) and the characters are likeable.

must I remind people that this is pretty much copy/paste of the OVAs they produced back in 2003? I agree with some flaws in writing but those who complain about the animation thinking its new stuff makes me laugh

Two things.
No, I was not aware this was copy and paste.
Even if it is, they could have at least cleaned things up.
So is this show suddenly going to look like Clannad or Kanon?
I don't think so. That would be ridiculous for the overall consistency of the show.

Assuming that comment was directed at me as well - I suck at judging animation, so I generally don't try to do it. The only comment I made about art quality was that the children have absurdly huge eyes, which stands even if this show is 6-year-old copypasta.

I enjoyed watching the two OVAs. :'3
Especially the 2nd OVA. But now I'm asking for more when I finished that. It was...argh! it gives you the "where the hell's the continuation?! What's gonna happen to Yumemi and Munto now!?" kind of feeling. *_*

I can't wait for the next episodes already as I really wanna see the continuation after the 2nd ova. x'3

And I'm still a bit irked that the tiny little girl gets to have a hawty for a boyfriend. xD It's so unlikely that it makes me laugh.
At first I didn't like Suzume and her bubbly attitude...but in this episode, it made me like her a lot instead. I thought she was so cute and sweet. TwT Doing impossible things for her friends. x'3 It made me go "awww" at her. x']

Anyways, Munto, such a hawty. Why is that? Lawl xD
(Here I go again with my fangirling. xD)
Anyways!
Haha~
On with the next episode! (I only need to download it now..x'p)

Probably the first time that I felt like an anime felt like finished, but I know it's a remake of the OVA's. My guess is that they'll add more of... KyoAni into it. Why didn't they adjust the clothing of Munto etcetera? It's pretty oldschool, as it reminds me of Magic Knight Rayearth... I'm just wondering if it will be 12-13 or 22-26 episodes.

Suzume is actually more grown up than the others, even if she doesn't look like it. Looking forward to the next meeting with Munto and Yumemi.

So I know that the kids swimming across the river is suppose to be symbolism, but to me it just seems dumb. I guess it means that if they can cross the river together, it means they can overcome anything. It's really not that difficult to swim across a river. Besides the little girl (thats all I see in my mind, she's using a freaking floatie for crying out loud) is going against the rules by using said floatie because it's only suppose to be the two of them. And what in the world does that have to do with being married?

But aside from that whole godawful storyline, it was kind of intriguing to see Munto and Yumemi reaching each other through the barrier. It's just strange enough to keep me watching this otherwise terrible series.

lol im really loving the series
love the storyline, well maybe cuz im into fantasy and stuff but
still, it looks great and i love the OP as well.
however, the only thing that i thought was kinda annoying so far
is the small girl named suzume. i mean, they are 13.....
and wtf??getting married??even thinking about it????
i think kyoani made a mistake in putting in mid-schoolers...
i know 3yrs pass between the two ovas, but still, yumemi and her friends shoulve been high schoolers.i think that wouldve fit better as an anime.
(yumemi shuold also be high school so that i wont be a child stalker lol it would be weird calling midschoolers moe)

I don't get it. They had all that tension building up and they broke it. It seems more like a Ova series than a complete show. I hope it goes somewhere. It reminds me a lot about Black Rock Shooter... which I found a little annoying too. IDK, if your going to make up this fantastic world and never have the main character go... its super disappointing. On to the next episode...
