THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- This was very interesting sci-fi story about romance between robot and human but the ability of robot to bring up child with human, that got this idea to totally new dimension. When there's artificial mind (not just intelligence but complete mind with all its aspects) capable of what human mind can do and body that can also do same as human and more, can it(she) still be considered robot? Guess not, what do you think ? Anyway pretty good series (OVA+movie). I wonder why those older anime have often something more in them. |

not bad, a couple of things bothered me though -no-one seemed to really care how Ross voted, Naomi didn't really bat an eyelid -Yoko didn't seem too disturbed by the two replicas of her mother trying to kill them -no-one seemed really bothered by anything, and just turned up when they were needed in the plot -Armitage went for a tune-up while Ross and Yoko were running for their lives -Ross was generally useless -everyone seemed to be able to dodge bullets a bit too easily -half the film was the final fight scene trying to get to the shuttle, lazy -no real sense of closure for the first half's plot -cgi was a bit awkward in place -looked a lot like the world of Stand Alone Complex (both released 02 though?). Even the chairman looked like Aramaki eh, that was more than a couple. enjoyable 90 minutes though |

I knew I recognized Mouse's voice. It's Ahmed Best, of Jar Jar Binks fame. Now I can't watch this anymore without putting Jar Jar in the role. |

The animation quality (lol that helicopter scene) and story wasn't quite as good, but that action was intense. She had lasers... what happened to those? I'm a bit annoyed at that. Ross wasn't as badass either. Their "normal" daughter seems to have some computer insta-memory though. So her mom's a robot (not that she could tell from a little arm damage), no kid would care. I found it a little strange that she would suddenly be afraid of her own mom. |

They cut to Armitage saying something like "...I got my daughter involved," which implies Ross explained everything offscreen. I'm sure most people had enough of Armitage's whining in the OVAs: "Look at me, I'm badass!" Person looks. "Stop looking at me, I'm a monster!" Blackouting said: -Armitage went for a tune-up while Ross and Yoko were running for their lives And this was fucking hilarious. |

(rewatched) Yoko is 6... so this is 6 years 9 months later. We start out on mars, then Naomi goes to Earth alone. Ross goes to earth later, and leaves his daughter open to being kidnapped (lol seriously so obvious). End is 2 years after all this it seems since it says Yoko is 8... she doesn't seem too traumatized over the whole ordeal. The original had... atmosphere... this, not so much. Naomi still feels more "distant" in this one compared to the "fireball" she was in the original. The plot is pretty bad too... cliche evil rich dude... the fact that there is a clear "bad guy" in this one actually makes it feel pretty empty in comparison. 5/10 (average) The action is enjoyable enough and it keeps the pace. It's not just as good as the original. |

The updated art style ruined 99% of what made the original ovas enjoyable to me |

Well, that was 100% unnecessary. There's some interesting stuff in there but the plot and characters were pretty shitty. Also, the new art style was garbage. The action scenes lacked impact and a good direction. |

(I have only glanced this movie and the original ova afterwards to see if worth watching) I dunno, i love the art style of this movie! I love black upper lips, reminds me of Kazuma Kaneko Art. http://static1.1.sqspcdn.com/static/f/1243006/18015436/1336083836467/dds1.jpg?token=llbUDij1YJMR2UMVpJt7HuS7ul0%3D I've been looking since long ago for an anime with an art style that has an upper lip. And when i've finally found it... people don't like it, while i do. *sigh* CAN YOU EXPLAIN TO ME, WHY EVERYTHING I LOVE IS HATED BY THE MASSES?! Or just is unpopular. Sailor Moon Super S, my favorite SM season, is hated by everybody! Mega Man 8, i love it, but it's hated by masses! Castlevania Chronicles Simon Belmont Design, Final Fantasy X-2, Dragon Ball GT and so on. You know how it feels when everything you love is universally hated?! Either way, i think the digital art of this anime fits very well and looks very clean and high quality. And it looks way better than most of new anime. Clean, sharp colors, non-blurry lineart and stuff. How can you people dislike this style when it's better than most of modern anime styles? |

Not a fan of the new character design, and the plot did play out like any other boilerplate sci-fi action movie (missing the intrigue and worldbuilding of the original), but I still thought it was good. Background visuals are decent, the antagonists were more threatening than the original OVA, and I did find the family dynamic going on sweet enough. Mouse (the eccentric mechanic guy) was probably the most memorable new character from this movie. I do wish there was some follow up on the bill that wasn't passed because Ross abstained. Felt like it was glossed over and forgotten about once Ross and Naomi decide to rescue Yoko directly. Can't complain about the action though, it kept me engaged. |
